Bangkok ranks 2nd in Asia and 6th in the world as city with the lowest nightlife expenses

BANGKOK, May 12th 2013 (NNT) - Trip Advisor reveals that Bangkok ranks second place in Asia and the 6th in the world as the city with the lowest expenses for nightlife tourism.

Trip Advisor, a large global tourist information website stated the results from the Trip Index Cities 2013. The index compared tourist’s nightlife expenses, including the expense for one night accommodation for two travelers, in major tourist cities all over the world.

The accommodation prices are compared using a 4 star hotel standard, and taking into account prices for cocktail drinks and a two course meal dinner with a bottle of wine, along with return taxi fares at an average of 3.2 kilometres each trip.

In Asia the lowest costing night tourist destination is Hanoi, Vietnam, with a calculated average of 5,045baht per night. Meanwhile, Thailand’s average cost turns out at 5,774baht. As for Asia’s highest expense for nightlife, Singapore tops the rank at 11,489 baht, being only 3.45baht higher than Japan in second rank.
As for the world rank, Sofia, Bulgaria ranks first place as the world’s cheapest destination for nightlife expenses at an average of 4,542 baht, while Oslo, Norway tops the world’s rank for most expensive, at 16,661baht, followed by Zurich, Switzerland.

From the survey, Asia results as the world’s lowest costing region for nightlife touring. Up to four out of ten from the top ten ranking of lowest costing tourist destination cities are in Asian countries, with Hanoi ranking second, Bangkok at sixth, Kuala Lumpur at seventh and Riyadh, the tenth.

Europe results as the world’s highest costing region for tourists, with six European countries in the top ten highest expenses for nightlife cities index. The number one rank going to Oslo, Zurich second, Stockholm third, Paris fifth, London seventh, and Copenhagen at eighth.

I haven't been to the Philippines, or Angeles, for many a long year but in my day it was quite a place especially as it grew up around the US Air Force Base at Clark. It took a hit when the Americans moved out and then was all but destroyed by the ash and debris when Mount Pinatubo started erupting

I understand it picked itself up and is now livelier than ever it was but the Philippines even in Manila isn't the greatest gourmet paradise, well not then anyway.

I don't see Saudi as being a tourist place except for Muslims and on a recent BBC " Fast Track " programme they said tourist visas were not the easiest things to get presumably meaning for non-Muslims. We're not allowed to visit Mecca.

I was there (Manila) about 3 years ago and the nightlife was great. I was with a Filippino friend so she helped me stay out of any real trouble but those folks know how to party. The street food and most restaurants are the pits, no doubt about it but, having said that, I stayed in a 5 star in Davao (in the south) and the food was awesome. They do know how to make good food, they just don't have the resources to keep the high end food stuffs and chefs around.

On some "Pattaya Nightlife" forums I see posters opining that they can "get by" on 10,000 baht per night but 15,000 is a more realistic budget...

I just got back from Singapore, I nearly gave up drinking when I noticed it was 12 SGD per bottle, basically 288 baht, if you want the good stuff that is going to cost you closer to 400 baht per bottle. I went out on a relatively quiet night but it was really good fun. Met a bunch of Singaporean guys there who showed me a little of the town, it was a most welcomed change to the usual nights in Thailand. We actually, paid rounds etc etc.

I really enjoyed myself there, I wasted about 80,000 baht though with not much to show for it to be honest but the experience was great and it's so much more efficient than Thailand. They have a lot of history there so I say it's worth the experience really, I needn't have spent so much money really but I was on holiday so....

I got back to Don Muang and had to queue for the taxi, though the taxi ride was cheaper than in Singapore, Singapore really did beat Thailand in terms of professionalism. The taxi driver who drove me back home I am 99.9% certain was high on Yabba at the time as well, with all the face movements he was making, that was really unnerving.

So yeah Thailand and Vietnam are cheaper but I think the sometimes it pays to pay a little more for a better time in the end.

2. MRT to Soi cowboy (and back) 50 baht

3. Random street food 300 baht

4. Overpriced beer on Soi Cowboy 120 baht per bottle

5. Lady drinks 170 baht

6. Lady drinks for her 'sister' 170 baht

so, one round of drinks is around 500 baht with tip.

7. Barfine 600 baht

8. ST for lady 2,000-2,500 for a looker

9. Crappy st room with inevitable drinks, 400 baht

10. dinner and a movie for two 1,000 baht

So, that 5,000 range will get you minimal drinking, but will get you laid, food, sleep, and even a movie. Not bad.

Booze is the wallet breaker here. Far more than the cost of getting a girl.

15,000 seems to be a really fun night out. Partying on a budget gets to be a drag.

There are some damn good restaurants, with good food and drinks for low prices. Of course not DIRECTLY on Nana or Patpong.

So eat out in a nice (mostly Thai- frequented) place and hopp on to few drinks at the "usual" places...good and not overly expensive fun.

Even the price of woman has increased well more than double over the past five years; it is still a good deal compared to the like of most other big cities in Asia

I did some basic research on the " star ' system years ago for an English course I was dealing with and the basic situation was unless it's a major chain or a really well known hotel the stars cannot be relied on as many hotels simply" award " themselves whatever they want.

Had to laugh at this definition of "nightlife". So basically it's "lunch but it's dark outside?" Come on, where are the real nightlife positions like bars, clubs, cocktails, second & third dinner (aka breakfast before dawn)? Not to mention the adult nightlife...

Finally, I get to show off a bit of knowledge on a subject I know....only too well. I have maintained a residence in both Angeles City and Subic Bay since 1995, and have visited those areas on several occassions prior to 1995..as far back as 1977. Never mind Pinatubo....Fields Avenue has long since recovered. There is an expressway connecting Subic Bay to Angeles...and its less than an hour to travel to the beach from Fields Avenue to Subic. Angeles is costlier than Subic, but Happy Hours exist for those who enjoy the clubs. If you fly into Clark on Tiger Airlines, its about 3000 baht. No need to go to Manila, as one post wrongly s uggests that Manila and Angeles are the same. Pattaya nightclubs and hotels/restaurants are far more numerous than the one street (Fields Avenue/Perimeter Road) in Angeles. Beer could be about 30 percent cheaper, but the average hotel/restaurant may be a bit more. Fast Food is Cheaper and more abundant. Trikes(Tuk-Tuks) can be a rip off. Late night can bring big trouble if you stray off of Fields. I do find it nice that the people speak fairly good english. Girls will use and abuse you, but at least there is no Sin Sod. You can land a marriage without buying a farm. Also, the gals are much better at appearing to be your "girlfriend". I do find the poverty much more dismaying than in Thailand. Pattaya is much nicer city (in appearance) than Angeles will ever be. I understand the Discos in Pattaya are a good place for singles. You will not want to go to any Discos in Angeles. Most expats learn to sit outside near a small Sari Sari Store and chat up the locals.... Never get involved in Card Games....and no..you never met the trike driver, and are not his friend. Signs are up everywhere. Avoid scams same as you would in Pattaya.

That 80,000 was actually closer to 100,000 I still have about 170 sgd in my safe but includes hotels, museum passes, nights out, casino (lost about 3000 there, was up at first though, huuuuuuge casino), air fare, presents for people.

It was pleasant and a refreshing change to going out in Bangkok. Granted I could have gone out a lot in Bangkok with that but as a one off, it was ok. I'm definately going to check out Borneo, Vietnam, Hong Kong, Philippines etc after my experience there.

I recommend, mariana bay, holland village, damn forgotten the name of the other areas but close to marina bay and full of eateries, pubs and clubs.

Oh, if you are interested in girls then they have every nationality there and like 24/7 too, I booked my hotel online so ended up choosing Geylang which is a notorious red light district. I would wake up at around 8 am shower and then walk to the MRT and there must have been at least 100 just outside my hotel from every hour in the day.

Singapore is a place where if you know where to shop then you can usually spend less too, so I made a few mistakes, example, after a few beers, late on the first day I had got there I went to buy a cable for my iPhone because I'd forgotten it, I bought it around by the hotel, next day, I went to an IT place and it was like 5 times cheaper. Avoid the tourist areas and you can find everything possibly cheaper than in Thailand even but even saying that there are exceptions.
