Going to Pai

Featured Replies

We recently bought a car and the wife wants to visit Pai next week.

It's her first visit.

Can spmeone recommend a nice and comfortable GH, preferably for under 600B?

Is it low season now?

Since we got wheels, perhaps a recommended GH outside of Pai might be less expensive.

Thanks. :)

When friends suggested anti-nausea tablets, I thought they were kidding!

There are lots of little places to stay just out of town. Some of the eating places are amazing. French breakfast at one place, then found a nice place in the walking street for dinner.

Worth staying a few days if the place has a nice pool.

PM me if you want the name of where we stayed, as my other half knows the name.

Yes it's low season, most hotels are half price......stayed at " The heart of Pai " before, rooms are simple and no wardrobe, parking yes and within walking distance to walking street...google has all the info...

Li Lu hotel , cheap but nice and pretty new hotel in the center. Good breakfast included.

Yes, I'll second "Heart of Pai" Not sure why they call it a resort but a newish hotel and very clean, stayed there last 4 times I went to Pai, last month they were charging 400 Baht for a fan room and 600 Baht for A/C.

Bear in mind that it is becoming the wet season and the rain does come down a bit, last month I wrote off a brand new truck and mini van, fortunately there were no injuries. Came to a sharp corner and it suddenly started raining, I braked but it was just like being on an ice rink.

Or if you would prefer to stay somewhere with more ambiance than a college dorm and you have your own car you might want to check out this place- http://www.yellowthailand.com/puravidapai/index.php

edit - I see chalkboard signs advertising 500B in front all the time in low season...ymmv

My buddy started going up there in the low season and was telling me there was 1,500 baht resoerts willing to take 500 and 600 baht a night. You would need transportation as they are not on main street. Also bargain with them.

Any other suggestions of where to stay in Pai? Pura Vida Pai as recommended above looks very nice but no swimming pool. Thanks.

If passengers get sick driving there, always look on the inside of the curve and they will get less sick.

Drive down walking street, there are guest houses around there in the middle of the nightlife. Around 6pm you cant drive a car down that road, but mocycs are ok. But you can go through the other side, it comes back around.

If you want an authentic bamboo hut experience Golden Hut has rooms for 200 baht, on the upper floors with hot showers. Downstairs are 100 baht, no bathroom. Pretty ghetto though and your GF may hate you for it. Its right on the river. There are also better quality bunglaows in the vicinity.

Walking street then make a right at the deadend is where I would stay. Or around where it turns right is another set of bungalows.

Thanks for that. Not looking for anything quite that rustic. Any other ideas? Swimming pool a must to entertain my kid. Thanks.

Check out Pairadise - nice bungalows, modest cost, breakfast bakery and one of their swimming pools even has fish. Cross the river over the big bridge past the high school and turn left; it's a couple hundred meters up the road on the right. Pai Lanna next door has a good restaurant too.

Went to Pupai Art Resort a few weeks ago. 800 bht for private chalet, great pool for kids, beautiful views. Around 10 min. out of town.
