I have been offered a job by a foreign-owned company in Thailand, but have one quick question. I read somewhere that a university or college degree is required to get a work permit. Is that true? The company doesn't care that I don't have one, as I have years of work experience in my field. My highest education is high school. Can I still legally get a work permit?

Nope, no degree required for a work permit.

You may however be asked to prove whatever qualifications you do claim.

"I don't want to know why you can't. I want to know how you can!"

No, not required.

If the employer is a big enough company, no issue at all, if a smaller company you might need to collate a detailed CV indicating you have specialist experience.

Interesting that people say not required. A Thai lawyer told me a couple of years ago that according to the law, a degree is required. But, like lots of other laws it isn't enforced.

Anyone know the actual situation on this?

I know I have no degree but I have a BOI work permit.

And I had a non BOI one before that.

I HAVE needed to provide evidence of qualifications and experience relevent to my role...just not a degree.

Like Monty says, not needed but you will probably need to do a CV, I don't have a degree/diploma but have specialised training. I've had a work permit here for 8 years like that with no problems. I was transferred here with the company I worked for in Aus and had to put a CV together with the specialised training and work experience, for the role I was going to be doing, in that to get the original work permit.

Just a lawyer that does not know the rules or preparing you for some special fees to get the work permit without one.

It is not required according to ministerial regulations for work permits.
