This is not so much a question as a request to get some useful information out there. I live in Bangkok and recently needed to renew the tax on my car and have had trouble finding information online about where I can do this and when those places are open. I would like to share what I now know and I hope that others will do the same.

So...a Thai friend did some online research for me and was able to access websites I couldn't. She told me to try the post office which was very simple, plus it was a weekend friendly option as post offices are open Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Documents required:

2 envelopes (bought at the post office for 6BHT)

The blue book

Your original compulsory Insurance certificate with the tear-off section at the bottom

Money (my Nissan March cost BHT1200)

They send everything off to the DLT, including the blue book, (so make sure you have a photocopy to keep in the meantime), but you get back the insurance certificate. There are no forms to fill out and you do not need to speak Thai. It took only 5 minutes.

About 2 weeks later you will receive the tax sticker and your blue book back through the post.

If like me, you have left it to the last minute, you can carry around the receipt given to you at the post office as proof that you have purchased tax, until the new sticker arrives.

Thanks in advance for sharing your knowledge here and hopefully making it easier for others like me to find information in future.

Good information on another car tax payment option.

There's the DIY option of going to the local LTO office and paying directly which is probably more handy for those out in the provinces where the LTO location is known and/or easy to get to.

If the car is on finance, there's the option of dropping off the money and insurance paperwork with the finance company (as they hold the blue book), let them pay the tax and send the sticker and receipt back to you. Apparently this is recommended since the LTO stamp 'tax paid' annually in the blue book.

Maybe make this a pinned item?

Yea, I just use the DIY option at the Land Transport Office "Drive-Thru."...just like ordering/paying for something at a fast food outlet drive-thru....Takes less than 60 seconds. Drive up to the drive-thru booth/window...hand the nice person setting in the booth your vehicle registration booklet, proof of the mandatory insurance, I guess an inspection doc if the car is over 7 years old (my car is still younger than that), and the money for the payment. They quickly do their computer checks/updates, stamp you registration book plus give you a receipt, and give you the new sticker for the windshield Absolute piece of cake.

I use the office over here in western Bangkok in Khet Talingchan. This web link gives you the addresses for the land transport offices. Link

And from looking at the Dept of Land Transportation Office main web site (all Thai language and google translate can't translate much on this web site), I see they even have an option to pay your tax online...unfortunately, everything seems to be in Thai only to include the manual/instructions you can download regarding the online payment method.
