CNN The Buzz - Only getting access sometimes

Featured Replies

I follow CNN Money for new reports, etc. I see reports that come from The Buzz that I'd like to read, but normally can't access them. I get an error message saying:

The connection was reset

The connection to the server was reset while the page was loading.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

Last night I couldn't sleep, so hopped on the PC around 2am and guess what? There was the site! I've been in contact with CNN and they are having me trouble shoot this to see if the ISP is blocking them for some reason. I'm on ToT just outside Pattaya.

Does anybody else have problems loading this site? I just tried again and it's not working. I can't access it from either:

http://money.cnn.com/ (here you get to it from the investing tab where there is a quick link)

or
http://buzz.money.cnn.com/

Thanks!!

just tried both links no problemsmile.png

Craig,

the message you quote is very typical of a slow computer and/or internet connection.

What O/S do you use, how much RAM, and how full is your hard drive?

Have you done all the usual things?

ie. delete the cache and browsing history in FFox; cleanout restore points, cleanup disk, defrag (assume you are using w'doze).

There are the additional (potential) problems of other people logged into your network,

and your provider throttling access during peak periods.

Post back with further details, other suggestions may be forthcoming.

Cheers, AA

Thanks for the reply. I'm on a 10Mb ToT connection. Fairly fast...though not 100% reliable! 5555

I can stream videos no problem. Have a good PC with lots of memory and 8GB of hard drives. Don't have problems with any other site, just this one. I can download torrents very quickly...pretty much any time of day. Though I will say ToT is a bit up and down, but overall quite good.

I deleted the cache and history recently to try and fix another issue...and do this on a regular basis also. So don't think that's the problem.

The strange thing is I could get to it early in the morning, but never during the day. I'm not normally up that late at night...so don't have a lot of opportunities to try again.

My friend has recommended a VPN, but I'd rather not go through the hassle and expenses just for this.

Just a crazy thing that I can't figure out. Since CNN has replied to me, specifically mentioning my ISP, I'm wondering if they have had problems before?

Again, Thanks!!

Dunno if this is a conspiracy theory, but better minds than mine have suggested

<provider throttling access>

I'm on 3BB 7Mb plan, best time for down/up 0300 - 0600 in my experience. AA

I just had problems accessing 2 sites. Facebook and a US government website. FB is having a problem confirming a reply to a friend request, saying the internet connection is slow. The gov site timed out. Just like CNN's. I can get to local sites really easily, even this one.

I think it might have something to do with international bandwidth issues during the day, which probably don't exist at 2am????
