PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA (BNO NEWS) -- The condition of anti-apartheid icon Nelson Mandela, who is being treated at a South African hospital for a recurrence of a lung infection, has remained unchanged during the past two days and the former leader remains in a critical condition, a government spokesman said on Tuesday.

"Former President Nelson Mandela's condition remains unchanged in hospital and doctors continue to do their best to ensure his recovery, well-being and comfort," presidential spokesman Mac Maharaj said. "President Zuma thanks the South African public for ongoing support and understanding."
