New Passport

Featured Replies

Hello everybody...

I have one question...

I had to change my passport (ran out of pages), the embassy canceled my old passport and gave me a letter for the purpose of transfer my visa to my new passport... BUT ... if I want to leave the country it is really necessary to transfer the stamps? or I can go with the Immigration officer at the airport showing both passports, the old with my visa and stamps even if it is canceled and the new one ? or It is necessary to have my visa on the new passport in order to go out of the country?

Thanks

If you just have a visa entry you can just have it done at the airport when you leave. If you still have a valid visa you will need to use both passports for all future entries until the visa expires and you get a new one.

If on extensions of stay you have to go to immigration to have it all transferred over.

It depens on if you have a visa-entry or have an extension of stay. If you have an extension of stay of a non-immigrant visa such as non-B or non-O, than you need to visit your laocal immirgaiton office to have the details transfered.

If you are on a visa entry, you can simply take care of it at the border.

Note that a visa itself is never transferred. In case you still have a valid visa you simply use the old passport to show the visa and you get the permission to stay in the new passport.
