June 26, 201313 yr Hello everybody... I have one question... I had to change my passport (ran out of pages), the embassy canceled my old passport and gave me a letter for the purpose of transfer my visa to my new passport... BUT ... if I want to leave the country it is really necessary to transfer the stamps? or I can go with the Immigration officer at the airport showing both passports, the old with my visa and stamps even if it is canceled and the new one ? or It is necessary to have my visa on the new passport in order to go out of the country? Thanks
June 26, 201313 yr If you just have a visa entry you can just have it done at the airport when you leave. If you still have a valid visa you will need to use both passports for all future entries until the visa expires and you get a new one. If on extensions of stay you have to go to immigration to have it all transferred over. Edited June 26, 201313 yr by ubonjoe
June 26, 201313 yr It depens on if you have a visa-entry or have an extension of stay. If you have an extension of stay of a non-immigrant visa such as non-B or non-O, than you need to visit your laocal immirgaiton office to have the details transfered. If you are on a visa entry, you can simply take care of it at the border. Note that a visa itself is never transferred. In case you still have a valid visa you simply use the old passport to show the visa and you get the permission to stay in the new passport.
