Finding a Dehumidifier

Featured Replies

Does anybody know where you can buy a portable dehumidifier suitable for a bedroom, preferably with the water collector? We find that the aircon is not enough and during the day usually have a dehumidifier on to dry out the bedding, etc. We have a DeLonghi model but the compressor has given up the ghost after 10 years. Took it to Num Chai and they are going to take 2 weeks just to look at it. They only sell air filters so need to find another.

Thanks in anticipation

Just doing a prolonged test with various smaller and larger air-con units. The trick is to go as small as possible. We are cooling a 48-sqm room under the roof comfortably to 26/27 degrees these days with a humidity of less than 40%, sometimes down to 34% with a 12'000 BTU unit and could have actually gone for a 9000 BTU.

Setting of fan on lowest position. The trick is to have a small unit run all/most of the time, never really reaching the turn-off temperature, therefore continuously dehumidifying. The cost of electric is about the same with a too small unit vs. a large unit that cuts out all the time, and hast to start-up again or even less.

We learned this from an Indian Engineer who stated that all units in the Thai hotels seem to be oversized and wear and tear is bigger due to stop/start action.

We have just replaced a powerful 20'000 BTU unit and replaced with the 12'000 inverter, which actually tunes down to 4'000 BTU. Perfect!
