Hi all, im long time viewer first time poster,

can someone confirm if I'm interpreting this correctly

มี.แฟน.นานแล้ว..ขอโทษที่โกหก

"Have had a boyfriend a long time ago .. sorry for lying."

แล้ว assumes past tense/ already happened am i correct?

Oh, I misunderstood OP question.
It means that she ALREADY has a BF for a long time and still is together.

If she would have meant that she had a BF long time ago, but not anymore, she'd write:

เคยมีแฟนนานมาแล้ว

thank you,

confusing stuff,

what about "เขามีคนใหม่แล้ว...เศร้าเลยเรา" (this was the update before the one in the OP)

this seems to imply (to me) that she was upset they he has found a new person

(love these thai soaps) does me head in translating,

perhaps i should get a book then read FB statuses and LINE app statuses

... but its just so intriguing hehe

He's already got someone new - sadly/unfortunately for us.

เรา can mean us, me or you, according to context. "Us" is the more common meaning. Perhaps the sense here is "unfortunately for the two of us" meaning that she thinks the two of them would have been good together.

No, in that sentence, เรา just means I.

In other words, it just says "I'm so sad"

Perhaps you could explain how you come to that conclusion, given the other possible (and more obvious) translations?

Ayg, I often hear people use the word เรา to refer to themselves when something is happening to them and they had no power to change or prevent it. I am not sure why they like to use เรา in this case ... maybe because it's something happening outside themselves...

For example: I very often hear

"เราก็โดน"

or

"เมื่อไหร่จะเจอคนที่รักเราจรีงๆสักที"

and เรา in these sentence is the first person.

It could be a false impression (about the use of เรา in this case), not sure ....

เรา is extremely common first person address. เค้า is even more common where I am (chiang mai) but it is only used in the North, where เรา can be used anywhere and any situation.
