I would have thought , what with the political unease again today , that we maybe about to see my pound buy more baht....

No such luck :o

If this doesn't , then what will??

For my own financial gain.....

I don't give a toss what happens to fish face/square face toxin..

Ahh so if Squarehead remains in power and bht sinks like a rock you support him for PM? :o

Even if the Baht were to drop because of some Toxin news, it would be strictly temporary. As I have maintained for a long time now, SEA currencies are going to appreciate and all should plan accordingly.

Brit, I am trying to help you man. You still won't listen??????

I agree with this...Most SEA currencies ARE majorly undervalued and its just a matter of time before they do start appreciating at a higher rate

Saying that , I was kind of hoping for a short-term annihilation of the thai baht to serve my own wicked needs...

Looks unlikely though.

Nah Trip - Baht isn't going anywhere but down for the long term. :o

the only currency that needs a major correction is the chinese, and that will come very shortly, then the dollar will recover a little and the baht will drop.

but in the long term things will average out and the thai baht will gain when they have sorted out the political situation, as i believe the chinese economy will grow and it will pull thailand along with it as well as other countries with chinese connections.

Willem Buiter, a monetary astronomer at Goldman Sachs, comments:

"With the US trade gap in October 2005 widening to a new record U.S. $68.9 Billion, the US current account deficit is unsustainable. Its correction will require a large depreciation of the real effective US Dollar exchange rate, on reasonable estimates by no less than 30%, and quite possibly by more."

And to follow that up... This was reported...

"The Asian Development Bank warned readers last week to "prepare for a collapse of the dollar."

You read too much Trip - hate to say it, when these forecasters say these things, thats when it goes the other way. Dollar will remain strong and anyone predicting a collapse is going to be sorely disappointed. Yuan is over-rated and that will be seen shortly - if the chinese ever have the <deleted> to float it.

True. I was just in Shenzhen. The Chinese miracle is sputtering. Major issues with energy, labor, social structure, and ITS A SOCIALIST/COMMUNIST GOVT! They are putting up a brave face to the world, but underneath the veneer, its not so well-oiled. And a stronger baht is not really in Thai manufacturer's, or the tourism industry's best interest is it? Take a deep breath and relax. Your Thailand retirement dreams are not going to be devalued out of existence. More likely, by the time you're ready, you wont want to live there anymore anyway.

We shall see, my friends. We shall see. :o

I'm selling a kit that enables people to tattoo on soap bubbles. I devoted my life to it when I realised it would be far easier to accomplish than to predict currency movements with any accuracy. :o

O.. for the old days (1979)when you could get 19 dints to the $US Dollar :o
