Extension Of 30 Day Visa Exemption Based On Child

Featured Replies

Will it be possible to extend my 30 day exemption based on having a child, our daughter was born only 10 days ago and I have about 10 days left on the original entry,on the downside I'm not married to her mother but I am on the birth certificate as the father.

I've read that counts for nothing and that I need to legitimise my being her biological father,i don't really have time to do that while I'm home this time, but need more time until a new over seas contract starts.

Thanks Stoneyboy.

Yes, the 60 day extension should be possible with birth certificate. if wife and child cannot join you, take a few pictures of them and get a doctor to sign a statement they cannot travel to accompany you and the mother that you are living with her and taking care of the child.

For a 1 year extension you would indeed need to legitimize the child first in court.

Thanks Mario that will save me a trip to Laos, both mother and baby will accompany me to the immigration office as we have a hospital appointment anyway.

If we marry in the near future will I automatically become the father under Thai Law ?

Or if I go the route of legitimisation through the court what is actually involved,I've read much conflicting information.

Yes, if you get married you automatically become the legal father of the child.

Going to court means that you asked the judge to recognize you as the father. The judge might want to a DNA test, but if the mother agrees that you are the father there is not much too it and besides a possible DNA test confirming you are the father more or less a hammer piece. You than take the court decision to the amphur and you are the legal father.

Thank you for your clarification, very much appreciated.

You will need the house book the child's is registered in to get the extension. GF should also have her ID card and house book (if not same as child) with her.

Plus copies of all the above, your passport pages and TM6 departure card..

Ok thanks, our daughter has already been added to the house book and this is the same book as my girlfriend which actually is her parents address and not our address as we only rent,I'm assuming this will have no impact on my application.

I believe many Thais are registered at addresses but live elsewhere.

it will have an impact, as the registration determines where you should apply for the extension.

As you say, it will not be a big deal if they live in another province than registered, but in that case they must take proof of their actual address in the form of a utility bill or rental contract to sow they are really living there.

We live only 20k from the in laws and are in the same province Phetchabun, which has no immigration office of its own,its served by neighbouring Phitsanulok,we shall take a utility bill to clarify where we actually reside.

Due to lower numbers of westerners they are rather helpful anyway and I have dealt with them on numerous occasions in the past so I have a feeling they will remember me from a recent visit.

I will go either Thursday or Friday and will post the outcome here.

Thanks for your replies.

Thank you to those who contributed to the thread.
