phuketsub
The paint on my '95 Corolla is starting to go. I definitely can't afford a complete new paint job, so I am just wondering if anyone knows of a shop here in Phuket where they will "stop the rot" at a reasonable price. Any help much appreciated. IrishIvan
Head up to Phuket town from Chalong. When you hit the school on the massove intersection turn right. You will head up quite a large road. When you hit the next intersection turning left will take you to Phuket town near sapahn hin. Turning right will take you to Cape Panwa area. Straight ahead will take you on a big road which abruptly ends in a dead end. Before you get to the dead end you will see a little shop that specialises in weird stuff like pedal powered boat repairs and other assorted junk. About 50m past him you will see a left turn that leads down a hill. Follow the road down about 200m and it will lead you right. After the right turn you will come to a grass carpark with a few old cars in it. Next to that there is a little spray shop. There is a real happy old bloke in there named Perm. There is no job to small for him. Wheras other shops will stick you at the back of the insurance claims Perm is a bit off the beaten track. He also knows auto electricians (thai style). The only problem you might encounter is that he might not have the paint color you require if its like british racing green or something. And he does not speak one word of english. And I mean nahda. He is a very friendly and fair guy though.

Here's the guy I go to in Chalong Rawai: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/638900-looking-for-quality-car-painter/?p=6394179 Edit: Forgot that Rawai starts from Chalong Circle south. . You are likely talking about Google Maps which is browser based map? Google Earth is software client running on PC. Not a big thing, but can be as confusing as people talking about using oxygen bottles while going diving.

I just happen to think of it as Street view. Not quite correct, but we are going way off the OT. Just trying to push this when members recommend a place to go as it gives a much clearer idea of where it is - visual picture and map reference. Guest
As I do not know anything of how to fix a car, all I can do to help, is to make the car look better in the virtual world.
merijn
Is that the original paint coming of ? Unbelievable if that's the case i did not know that the paint jobs in the factory was that bad.
phuketsub
Thanks so much to all of you for all of your input and directions..I don't blame the factory for the paint problem; the car is 18 years old and has spent too much time exposed to the elements. My bad. Personally I don't care too much about how the car looks, only that it is structurally and mechanically sound. Unfortunately the wife takes the opposite view! Anyway, will keep you updated. Oilinki, the photoshop fix freaked me out...
seajae
it looks like bog falling off so at one stage the car was pranged and repaired with bog(fibreglass) and re sprayed, might pay to get it checked out before all the bog starts to fall out. The rust behind the bog is a dead give away, salt air corrosion starting up which will go behind all the bog in the car........

You can also see the hammer marks(round) in the patch as well, is it all the doors?, could turn into a biggie, I would be removing all the loose/cracked areas before getting any quotes or they might just do a cover up and it will all drop off again in 6 months. KarenBravo
A 1995 car? Just drive it until it conks out. It's resale value is low, so it's not worth spending more money on it.
phuketsub
Yeah, it's pretty old, but the engine runs well so I don't want it to rust away like my old jalopy (Suzuki Carribean).
