With all the motorbike crashes & beating from tuk tuk/ jet ski scum, there certainly will be a need for a medical hub!

Exactly my first thoughts.

They certainly have a head start with all the tourists visiting Phuket who end up as patients there....!!

When staying at the Patong Hospital and you hit the emergency call button beside the bed does a bloody great ladyboy jump out from under your bed ? Or is that Pataya ? w00t.gif

Turn Phuket into a medical hub...heard it years ago and a great idea..we need more hubs..

But how can you take them seriously..as well as the huge shortage of nurses their ill thought out plan involves.." equipment and medical facilities will be lent or borrowed when necessary". cheesy.gif

Can't run a decent HUB if you can't borrow your neighbour's defibrillator.

Wouldn't it make more sense to take the patient to the machne rather than the other way around? Silly me, TIT.

Not really, a defib. machine is the size of a small suitcase and the technology is no longer hugely expensive. What should happen of course is that each police car patrolling the streets and every ambulance should carry one as a matter of course, wait, what's wrong with this picture!

ah you are an Australian cop, yes we have been trained in the use.

Why is it that all our Thai who can afford it go to Bangkok, New Zealand and Australia when they need serious treatment facepalm.gif

Bangkok yes, but doubtful about NZ and Aus, unless you can prove otherwise, more likely Singapore.

With the amount of violent crimes, motorbike crashes and the lack of even the most basic forms of public safety I suspect the hospitals are already pretty full.

It raises the age old question: What is better, prevention or cure?

For many causes it will cost money to deal with TukTuk thugs, unsafe wiring and building standards, poor roads and driver safety but improve overall health/well-being long term.

For providing a privately funded medical service that will charge the patient and their medical cover it generates money.

Which one is the more typical Thai business model/preferred choice?

Australia has the worst and most expensive health system in the world that is why Australians are the 2nd to Russians travelling to Thailand for Health care. Don't think Thai's would be travelling to Aust when Aussies are travelling to Thailand to see a Dr.

Modern defibrillators are now automatic.

Follow the accompanying diagram on where to place the two electrodes, then press a button. Even a child can do it.

The parents of an electrocution victim who died when an electric shower malfunctioned started an appeal and raised enough money to buy a few portable defib machines for the paramedics. Has anyone ever heard of one being used or were they 'lost' ?

Why does that not surprise me?

And there was me thinking that hub meant centre. Phuket is hardly central but maybe they meant a Phuket hub. Could this be a splinter hub from the normal hubs ?

Of course the alternate and most probable answer is that nobody knows!
