British Tourist Dies In Diving Incident Off Koh Samui

Featured Replies

From what I have heard on Koh Tao, it was on the Trident, and the two divers in question were using rebreathers. A lot can go wrong with rebreathers, especially closed circuit.

I know the Trident does Trimix, so I would guess that they could have very well been doing closed-circuit rebreathers.

That's two people (apparently) that have died with Trident in a couple months (one DM and now this person). Not good for local diving, and really not good for the guys at Trident.

But like all news in these parts, I just heard it from someone that heard it from someone else, and the coconut telegraph ain't what it used to be.

Tjo o tjim,

You want to get your facts straight.

When the DM died, last month, the Trident was in the docks.

Please explain how this DM fella could've been diving off this boat.

Without knowing what went on, maybe you can keep your comments for yourself and wait untill more facts are known and than maybe post something. Before you know it a coconut can fall off the tree, straight onto your head.

Accidents can happen and unfortunately will happen and everybody in the dive industry should do all he can to prevent accidents to happen but it doesn't make a boat that people dived off more or less dangerous just because they were diving from a certain boat.

What kind of logic is that?

Regarding your comment that it's not good for local diving, that's true, but keep in mind that both accidents happened during Technical dives, NOT during recreational dives OR recreational training dives.

Well, now we know a bit more.. it wasn't a tourist and nobody really "jumped to conclusions", so it looks fred and his partner ran out of luck, or tri-mix or, or, or after all.

Limbos :- getting a little rough there.

I guess no one knows for sure what happended until the verdict out.

Re-breathers, many people offered me to try one, but not interested. To many people have died using them. I have an inherrent distrust for technical gadgetry controlling my ratio's of oxygen / co2 / nitrogen. ( as i said in other threads, have worked as an aeronautical engineer and have seen things in the industry which would rise some eye brows)

Scuba might be low tech, but suits me just fine. Complies with the KISS approach ( Keep it Short and Simple )......

I thought KISS was 'Keep It Simple, Stupid'. Still works for scuba though!

Skippy,

A little rough huh? The guy is clearly stating wrong information about a boat that 'apparently' has been involved in dives when accidents happened, which isn't true. He claims it's even hearsay. In this case I stand my previous post that he should get his facts straight and than maybe post.

Wether they used rebreathers or not, is not what I'm commenting on.
