Rimping Grocery - a report

We do most of are shopping at Rimping or Tops.

But when it comes to fruit vegetables pork and chicken the wife goes to the market.

I believe she uses the one by the US consulate.

That's my choice as well. I can get a fruit and veggies for a fraction of supermarket prices.

With my receipt at Rimping yesterday I was given a coupon for Rimping supermarket and Beyond at the Promenada Resort Mall. It stated opening 19th July and on that day free membership card worth 90 bht will be handed out (I.D card required). The promotion coupons incl. 100 bht off w/every meal of 400 bht excluding beverages in Restaurant, Bakery (60 bht off for 300 bht purchase), Oyster Bar (100 bht off for 400 bht receipt) and Hikarie (80 bht discount on 400 bht). Hikarie is described as "Japanese Restaurant by Nippon kai". Coupons good from July 19-Aug 15. Will be interesting to see how they expand from Supermarket to full food service. From all the signs I have seen in their other markets I'm not too hopeful. I went to the deli in Rumcouk the other day and asked for a steak to be cut of a large piece of local beef that was over 1000 bht/kg and after asking the 9 employees eating behind the counter numerous times for help I had to ask a manager that happened to be walking by to get me some help. The "butcher" then took out the meat that was wrapped in plastic wrap that included a pool of blood and put it on the cutting board which had dried blood on it, cut it w/a knife with dried blood and weighed it on a scale also covered in dried blood. While I waited I looked down at the olives sitting in a bowl covered in white scum (cause by people putting their hands into it). If this is the kind of hygiene they are going to keep in the new restaurant never the less an oyster bar I'm very very scared for any customer's well being. Just look at the photo on the coupon of a kid w/lettuce and tomato in his hair as a hat just as they always seem to treat food, as a plastic toy. Also having seem how many points one needs to get anything free using the card has anyone ever had their membership card used to their own benefit or does everyone just hand it over each time so the company can use it for their benefit of tracking your purchases?

There you go again huge paragraphs.

We only shop at the Rimping by the river. I was not aware there was any place else in the store to use it other than at the cashier to accumulate points.

As far as keeping track of what I buycheesy.gifcheesy.gifcheesy.gif So what. I can just imagine some one in the back going over my purchases. They would go crazy. Some times I have two of the wife's teenager relatives there once her daughter all of which goes on my bill and it seems like every other time I am getting some thing for her mother.biggrin.png

Plus no veggies Chicken or Pork. We get them at the Market.wai2.gif

But I am looking forward to a visit to the one at Promenada perhaps a movie and a little shopping. The way it is shaping up at the Promenada now looks good. I figure they won't be completed until September.
