Singapore vs Kuala Lumpur for birthday trip for my gf

Featured Replies

Hi, I am thinking about my gf birthday present for next month (august)

I think instead buing her another bag, I book airasia flight for us My choices are Singapoore or Kuala Lumpur as same price about 10 000thb for 2 of us

Just want know some details as I never been there, she never been almost anywhere. And I dont want ask her cuz its supposed to bu surprise.

Where is nicer, like more exciting for young people, better clubs, bars, may b beach

Alcohol no problem in KL?

I am more for Singapoore as I read some reviews.

Question is about visas for thais? does she need to apply for visa before? how long it takes? can get visa on airport? we just go few days.

I stay in thailand on turist multientry, my first entry expires on 13 august, I think I can extend for 30 days in jomtien emmigration, then 22 aug. go Singapoore, back thailand 28, means my second thai visa entry will activate?

I am on polish passport (poland), hpw I can find out what visa I need or not need?

Any one knows some not expensive hotel in Singapoore in good area? any good clubS?

thx for info

She does not need visa for both countries

Between the 2 Singapore will score better in wowing your girlfriend as they have more photo stops for her Instagram and Facebook page

Both places drinking is not an issues cheap hotels are hard to find in Singapore as they don't really exist and it's been ranked the most expensive city in Asia for hotels

U can score a better bargainin KL if u want to impress her in terms of hotels and food

thank you for cool answer

I would prefer Singapoore myself, I dont have to take her to luxyry hotel, just normal place, affordable price.

I will have look on net for hotels agoda or something

Singapoore got street foods? or just expensive resteurants? :)

if choosing Singapore - I personally would find a hotel on orchard road, where the main shopping area is. also remember Singapore and KL will be more humid. Singapore has sentosa island which is a good day out.

Singapore has lots of cheap places to eat / street food. but it is not like Thailand though. you will have to look a bit harder for the street food. Singapore is also a lot cleaner

They have cheap eats and some really nice food courts

Bring her to open air eating at Lau Pat Sat food centre (alight at raffles place met and follow directions )

Lots of good local food there and the food courts at most malls along orchard road are very decent and start abt 150 per dish excluding drinks

Not really a visa or migration issue so will move to the travel forum.

Singapore would get my vote though, though maybe a tad more expensive than KL.

She will die of boredom in KL, it's a no brainer, Singapore.

Friday Singapore Turf Club, Gold Lounge for tourists, great fun at the horse racing and cheap food / alcohol.

Saturday night, dinner at the Singapore Flyer, and go up the wheel after dark. Magic.

I also recommend the Singapore National Museum, a fantastic interactive walk through walk through of the history Singapore, and there are always excellent

guest exhibitions taking place too.

On top of that you have the usual suspects, Raffles Hotel, Fort Canning, and many more.

When I was there the Air Asia ticket stub got you a discount at Universal Studios, and using a Mastercard to pre-book, got you a discount at the Singapore Flyer.

I can't be bothered checking to see if the deals are still on, after all it's your girlfriend so you can do some leg work.

Just sayin' coffee1.gif

By the way, I didn't find it to be extraordinarily expensive, entry to the Turf Club was cheap, the food and drink was subsidized. Universal Studios were decent value, and you spend hours in there. The meal at the Flyer was good value, and with the discount, as was the Flyer.

The MRT train system was excellent and cheap too. It dropped you off right outside the Turf Club. Have fun......

If the price of hotel is a mayor concern choose K.L, cheaper than Singapore unless u stay far away. But KL hotels is some of the worse, if they say 3 stay it would be more like 1 star in Thailand.

There is a lot of things to do in KL, do the towers or even better radio tower with nice view and also offer dinner with nice view. Traders hotel got nice view of the towers, go for a drink. If u have time, genting highlands nice view and funpark and casino. They also got a fun park in KL it's called sunway and is good for a day trip. If u want to go to the beach, port Dickson is not too far with taxi.

Oh, I forgot to mention the casino at Sentosa Island. I walked in with my lady and she couldn't believe her eyes, table after table of every game imaginable, noise, lights, and it was packed at 2.30 in the afternoon.

She wanted to try one of the games so I suggested go black or red at the poker. She had money set aside to buy duty free and I said she would need to use that as I wasn't going to fund her gambling, I can be bad that way.......anyway,

Spin 1.....$10.00 win!!

Spin 2.....$10.00 win!!

Spin 3.....$10.00 lose sad.png

At which point she declared she was going to have a heart attack, and she better get out before Buddha saw her. She bolted out the door and left me to cash the chips.

Apparently it didn't matter if Buddha saw me, as long as she was okay cheesy.gif

u mean is full of girls? she ok with that, we live in pattaya, so shes use to it..

No worries then. That's the red light district in Singapore. Just google it!

i think east coast singapore be nicer

if you end up doing KL be sure to check Lufthansa they have a deal for 5300 baht RT and Egyptair and Ethipian also do KL.

in terms of less expensive places to stay in Sinagpore try this chain http://www.hotel81.com.sg/

I personally stay at the Citadines Mount Sophia only because the company pays but I have mates who like the hotel81.

I am not a big fan of Malaysia so my vote would be Singapore.

Last thing if you are a smoker read the rules you can only bring in one pack I believe.

Geylang is the red light area, most of the hotels have rooms by the hour. I don't think your lady would appreciate that.

On the bright side it's got a lively street cafe scene going on, just a wee bit rough and ready, and it's the real Chinatown, full of recently arrived Chinese immigrants.

A large bottle of Carlsberg down there would cost about 150 baht, so that's not bad.

Forget Geylang. The hotels are not good at all. Noisy and a lot of traffic during the night. Furthermore outside will be a lot of men (Indians, Pakistanis, Malays, etc.) not the best. Find something in China Town. They have hotels starting at SGD 80 per night. Hotel 81. They have a few better ones at Keong Sai Road./ Teck Lim Road It is very close to outram mrt station and the hop on hop off bus is stopping there too. It has a great night life too. Duxton Hill is close by as well. Great food and drinks. But remember Singapore's nightlife is not the cheapest. You should go as well to Clark Quay. I personally would prefer Ku De Ta on top of the Marina Bay Sands Hotel instead of the Flyer but it is a personal choice.

I would recommend to take one day with the hop on hop off bus with the boat ride. You can enjoy the bus the whole day and you will be able to cover most of the sightseeing points. Take one of the last boat rides to the Marina Bay as it will stop in front of the Sands and you will be able to enjoy the light show from the boat. It is quite nice.

Sentosa Island is great but I would not go into Universal, to expensive and crowded for my taste. For that I would go to Siam Park in Bangkok. To relax on Sentosa go to one of the beach clubs. Just be reminded that it will most likely be empty during weeks days but packed on weekends. Stop at Harbourfront MRT and take the sky train over to Sentosa Island. Convenient and you will not need to pay the entrance fee otherwise applicable. Ride cost SGD 3 for a round trip. Get an SMRT card once you arrive. You will be able to pay MRT, Buses, SMRT Taxis and at a few outlets with the card. No need for a taxi within Singapore. At the airport you can go via Taxi, Bus or SMRT to the city.

Every decent shopping mall has a food court where you can get good food for a reasonable price. If you find the time go and visit the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari and Bird park. They are really nice.

Make a stop at little India. Great food, spices, etc. Arab street might be interesting for you too. orchard road is only good if you really want to go shopping for designer stuff. Most of it is more expensive than in other countries. Hope this is giving you a few ideas what to do in Singapore.

thx

i will have look

i checked airasia its around 10000, same as KL

Seoul is 13 000 :)

KL has the best prices on 5 star hotels in SE Asia, but Singapore has it beat for entertainment and shopping all located in a small area. I would recommend the Orchard Parade Hotel on the corner of Orchard road and Tanglin Rd, I can usually book this through Agoda or Expedia for under 200 Sing per night which is a good rate for a 4 star hotel. Forget the geyland road area that is nasty if you you are looking for night life like Pattaya right across the street from the Orchard Parade is the Orchard Towers. If you are looking for great shopping and deals go to Mustafa in little India its huge and has almost everything you are looking for at incredable prices and there is high end shopping all up and down Orchard road.

everywhere in SEA are Chinese hotels, which are cheap, So also in SIN. And there, SIN, Indian food is way more delicious than in BKK, but not more than in Penang. So, if she is into Indian food, choose Penang, or even better go to Delhi

india not that nice

have you been there? did you go by bus and train from the South to the Himalayas. It's wonderful, an experience special class if you are not a Boeotian. Best country in the world after Thailand and Canada.

For most Thais going to India is a deal breaker and seen in a bad light

Almost as bad as telling her the honeymoon will be in Chiang Rai

You have some good suggestions there I personally would recommend against geylang area as the hotels and working girl mix means your lady has to have a very open mind

Be prepared to shelf out $150 Singapore dollars at least for a decent 3-4 star hotel in the other areas mentioned

It's strange though some of the best street food are found in this red light area :-)
