Might be a stupid question... But I'm in the market for a PCX, I went to BigWing today and started talking to the sales guy about the matte black PCX. He was very knowledgeable about what paperwork I need to purchase it... no problems there. Then I started asking about price, what it comes with... things like this... and suddenly he somehow lost all of his English ability... It really threw me off. First I asked him what the bike comes with... He somehow didnt understand this, he showed me the seat pops open.. I asked him if it comes with helmets, he said it will come with 1. Then I asked about insurance, he said it comes with 1 year insurance that covers me only, not the bike. Then I asked about the price of the bike and this is when he looked at the sticker and just read it to me, and I asked about negotiating, and suddenly he didnt understand anything I was talking about... Its like hes never been to Thailand, everything is negotiable...

Anyways, I know everyone isnt paying sticker price, plus paying for insurance and everything else on top of it... Im assuming that would put the price over 90,000 baht.

Can anyone give me a few pointers?

Yes, this is Thailand. And you're almost correct. Everything is Negotiable, except: Cars and motorbikes (new). You can probably talk about getting a few little extras with the purchase, but mostly, the price doesn't budge. Seems odd, doesn't it. Prices are dictated by the manufacturer and very difficult to find different pricing, it at all. To confirm this on your own, just go the several different Toyota or Nissan dealers and ask the price of a new car model - they will all give you the same.

You may get lucky, but you'll have to work very hard at it.

Good Luck.

go to the main dealer in the road to the bus station.

the little sellers just aren't all that good.

They will usually knock off 500-1000bht for cash.

Included stuff, government ins, plates+holder, tax, 2 years total loss ins, helmet, jacket, 1st service.

I got my PCX150 for B79 ,000 at Bigwing Chiang Mai ,about 5 months ago .The sticker price was B81,000 .So they can discount a bit .I did not take a helmet ,and i paid extra for a 2 year theft insurance .. .

Honda sticker price includes theft ins and helmet, so they took off the theft ins and you paid for them to put it back on 555.

Look at what the OP has writen ""Then I asked about insurance, he said it comes with 1 year insurance that covers me only, not the bike."

The sticker price does not include 2 years theft insurance .

Could be different at different dealers. Could be different at different times. Could be different for different customers. Could be different for different payment methods. Could be one of the posters did not get it right. The OP is a bit odd, like you do not ask about negotiating, you make an offer.

i cringed when i read this post. i remember doing the same thing. thinking i knew everything about thailand, and how 1 + 1 must equal 2. too funny. there's no negotiating on cars and motorbikes. the negotiating comes with the extras. though it feels more like begging...."c'mon, i just bought a bike, what will you throw in?!!"

I am not aiming this at you, BuddhaMind.... just your remark about "thinking i knew everything about Thailand", caught my eye. There are quite a few people that think they know everything about Thailand. Some of them never figure out how little they know.

I am not claiming any exceptional knowledge about Thailand. I am one of the ones that can't figure out how little I know.

I think they may move 500 Baht if they want to move the stock - like when there is a new colour scheme coming out. That is about it. Jimmym41's post is pretty much spot on.

Certainly can be different prices for different customers.

Just a few days ago my Thai adult son looked at a new car (I won't mention the brand), he asked about everything that might affect / add to pricing. e.g. 'If there any additional fee when the white plate arrives?", answer 'NO', all included in the fee of 5,500Baht for registration (extra, not included in basic price).

Unbeknown to my son I visited the same dealership a few hours earlier:

- What's the fee for registration?' - Extra 8,000Baht.

- Any additional to exchange the red plate to white plate? YES, 6,000Baht (and 2 to 3 months wait).

No sale.

Wow, wonder why nobody else thought of that.

Only problem is that it usually doesn't work. Salesmen are quite good at figuring out that there is farang money involved.

Not to mention gfs have a habit of arranging their own commission on any deal.

Who the barmaid or the poster who made the insunation ?

Anyway i hope the OP tells us how she got on .

When I bought mine, it was a simple question of "if I don't want the helmets, jackets, etc (but keeping insurance and the paper works), how much can you discount?"

When buying a car I was told the cost of reg etc. was 9,000b on top of the list price. That's very expensive I said, can you reduce it? No, cannot, it's 9,000.

Of course I knew this was <deleted>. Next dealer down had the correct prices listed out individually which totaled 2,600b iirc.

Remember many places don't want to sell for cash, as they will make much more selling the same bike on finance. Let alone discount for it.

I remember it was the cbr 150 or 250 people had difficulty buying when they were released as the dealers wanted them all sold on finance and they were in short supply and high demand.

The direct experience of knowing nothing about nothing is less dangerous than being unable to figure out how little you know, which is much less dangerous than never figuring out how little you know, which is a touch on a bare-foot by a smooth-edged blade-of-grass, compared to figuring out how little you know, which is a gentle-breeze ruffling your fur, compared to being convinced you are able to figure out how much you know, which is a sigh of a light-wind in trees, compared to being convinced you have figured out how much you know, which is a baby-rattle safe for gumming, compared to acting as if you know something ... the completion of this sequence, and its final drive-away price, left, as an exercise, for the reader.
