Driver school in chiang mai

Featured Replies

My son is german. He is 23 years and he have ED Visa and he gonna stay here in thailand chiang mai.

He have a international Driver licence already valid for 3 years from germany. He want to make a driver licence in thailand.

We live in San Sai. Do anyone know where there is in chiang mai a driver school which teach in english and do you know the process.

thanks

I think all drivers in Thailand are self taught.

No need for a school. Just go straight to the motor vehicle department and get a licence. There are a few requirements. Search for threads about getting a licence.

Maybe, just maybe, he wants to be a responsible driver and actually learn ( I know, Good Forbid!) how to drive correctly in Thailand-yes, I understand that this is not in keeping with local practices but to be applauded, I say.

Forget it. If he can drive competently in Germany there is nothing to be learned from a local driving school. Really.

Be cautious, expect the unexpected, get used to light jumpers, undertaking bikes and cars, corner cutting, surprising indifference to queue jumping and a total lack of interest and understanding of right of way, rear lights, any lights, and turn indicators.

There, now he'll be as good or better than 90% of the folk with Thai licenses.

A Driving School in CNX......

You are joking ??? Seriously though, if he has a German MDL, take it, his Passport and go to the MDL Office near the Airport. He may be given an eye test and a test to see how quick his reaction time is. If he passes, he'll get his THAI MDL for a small payment.

My first one was for 1 year but now I have one that is good for 5 years.\

I should mention that while we laugh/cringe at the driving habits of some local drivers, I have to admit that my wife who has been driving since she was 16 (quite a few years ago) is an excellent driver. When we went to live in Australia some years ago, she had to take a written test in English, she passed first time with a score of 100%. She then had to do a driving test with a cop in the car with her. She passed that the first time. Wish there were more like her on the roads of Thailand.

Lol @ drivers ed in Thailand..... if you are tall enough to see over the wheel then u are educated enough!

I think that by drivers school in Thailand they mean, this is where you put the key, this round thing is what you use to turn, this thing on the floor makes you go faster, this button turns on flashers that mean you want to go straight ahead. Other than that, there are no rules or requirements - just make them up as you go along and if there is a problem - keep driving.
