NSC rejects BRN inclusion of Sadao in Ramadan ceasefire zone.

BANGKOK, July 19 - Thailand's National Security Council (NSC) has rejected including Songkhla's Sadao district in the ceasefire pact between the government and the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN) militant group, according to NSC adviser Charoon Ampha.

Col Charoon said the security agencies are concerned and disagreed with Sadao being associated with other violence-prone areas as part of the ceasefire agreement.

He said the Thai authorities did not understand why the BRN included Sadao in the list of areas in the truce zone because the district is not located adjacent to any insurgency-plagued province in the deep South and violence has never happened in the area.

Last Friday, Ahmad Zamzamin bin Hashim, former director of Malaysia's External Intelligence Organization, announced a 40-day ceasefire agreement between the Thai government and the BRN.

The agreement, to last until the end of the holy month of Ramadan, covers Narathiwat, Pattani and Yala provinces and five districts of Songkhla - Na Thawi, Chana, Thepha and Saba Yoi and Sadao.

Col Charoon said the Thai agencies concerned were sending recommendations opposing the inclusion of Sadao to the security agency which would submit them to the upcoming meeting of the Southern Operations Centre, formally named the Operations Centre of the Committee to Mobilize Policy and Strategy to Solve Problems in. the Southern Border Provinces. NAKHON PHANOM, 19 July 2013 (NNT) – Sri Songkhram subdistrict’s child care center has reported 8 cases of hand, foot and mouth disease in young children.

An official at the center said the children were forwarded to the district hospital, after which they were prescribed medicine and allowed to go home. Although the cases were reportedly not serious, the same official said the childcare center has closed itself temporarily to clean and disinfect surfaces to prevent a possible outbreak. The center is expected to be back in service within a week.

Meanwhile, a Public health specialist at the Sri Songkhram District Hospital said authorities will urgently raise awareness among parents and schools in order to foster correct understanding about the disease and educate them on how to take care of children with early symptoms.

According to the specialist, the disease is curable and can be prevented. The outbreak is caused by an infectious virus which grows easily in hot and humid weather. Unless facing infectious complications, a child may get better by themselves in 7-10days.
