Turk nabbed for shoplifting

SAMUT PRAKAN ― A Turkish man was arrested on Thursday for allegedly stealing goods worth about 5800 baht at a Tesco-Lotus outlet in Bang Phli district.

Police identified him as Mehmet Selcuk Bilgic, 30.

He was arrested in possession of travel luggage, a wireless computer keyboard, a set of speakers and a camara bag, Pol Maj Phuwanart kanchan, a Bang Phli police station inspector, said.

Mr Bilgic removed barcode labels from the keyboard, speakers and camera bag and put all of them in the luggage. He then walked past an unmanned cashier's desk with the stolen items only to make the store security alarms go off. Security guards locked him up and called police.

Mr Bilgic admitted to the shoplifting, saying he wanted to give the stolen goods to an impoverished child and that he wanted to return to Turkey but had no money.

Police did not believe him and were investigating whether he was a member of a gang of white Indian and Turkish men who had committed similar crimes and been arrested by police.

What a thai would call a White Indian more correctly a Eurasian or a Londoner may call a Captain Kirk(he probably wished Scotty had beamed him up)

This clown should be a member of the cabinet given his logic and economics.

He wants to go home but has no money so he steals the items to give to an impoverished child. He needs Perry Mason to represent him.

One suspects Mr Bilgic has been in Thailand too long and has been learning from the locals when coming up with implausable excuses when nicked by Thailands finest, bit like the Thai man gets nicked for shooting photo's/video up young ladies skirts...cos his GF doesnt satisfy him anymore...LOL

White Indians?? Do they mean Albino's or Englishmen with Indian citizenship? Anyway this guy is a tool and throwing his life away for 5k. Head down to Australia and you can shoplift as much as you want. Keep it under $100 and you will only get a caution if caught and the caution is good for 3 uses. You won't make the news for shoplifting tho.

Could this not be a translation error..."White Indian" = West Indian ?

If the kid needs a wireless keyboard for his computer, that doesn't sound so impoverished to me. Impoverished means you have no food because you are so poor so why not steal those ? Sounds like the lame excuse of an idiot. Bang him up for a week with no food and let him learn the meaning of the word...

They should cut his hand off

But which one did the shop lifting ??? if you cut off the right and the left one stole you would be wrong

In Thai the term khaek khao "white indian" is used on any lighter skinned middle eastern looking people.

While just khaek would normally implies the typical more dark skinned people from the Indian subcontinent.

Those very dark skinned people of southern India are all called thamil regardless if they're really Tamil or not.

Thailand, the hub of racial distinctions.
