Is the Tiger Kingdom in Kathu already open? Or any more news about the park?

Never participate in anything involving captive animals in Thailand.

But, yes they opened July 11th.

If the tigers are not drugged and human interaction is allowed with a full grown tiger, then it is only a matter of time before the first tragedy occurs.

Does not sound like a tourist attraction I'll be recommending to guests.

Tiger kittens sitting on tourists laps and being bottle fed, a sure way to create a mentally traumatized tiger. Saw this at Phuket Fantasea back in 2000, not sure if they are still doing it.

Once read that they cut certain jaw muscles so the tigers cannot bite properly anymore. Then they feed them minced meat porridge for the (most of the time short) rest of their lives. Not sure if this is really true or animal rights activist 'propaganda'.

I am not really a big fan of animals in captivity for cheap entertainment. Remember in Krabi a friend had a king cobra in the house and he called the people from the local snake show. They came, captured it and used it in their shows. On that occasion the owner told me he was happy to get a free snake as he had to buy them at 80 Baht per kilo all the time. He said that although in the wild they live up to 20 years in captivity they only last a few months. He explained this is due to the stress. In the wild probably most days in the snake's life go by without it being threatened or confronted with danger. Apparently provoking it into defensive behaviour during a show two or three times a day does not do the snake any good.

Although I don't like to see animals being mistreated I would never pass up the opportunity to have my photo taken with a tiger. So on that note I will be making this part of my itinerary. I did the Tiger Kingdom in Chiang Mai and loved it.
