Jomtien Immigration Open Tue and/or Mon

Featured Replies

My tourist visa is good until 23 July. I;m leaving Thailand on 21 August so I just need a normal 30 day extension. I was just wondering if I can do this on the 23th. If they are closed because of the holidays and I can only go in on the 24th, will they see this as overstay?

I didn't go on Friday because that would have definitely given me a problem in August since the extension is only good for 30 days.

Maybe you guys know.

you will be ok & it wont be classed as overstay

Jomtien immigration is closed on Monday and Tuesday (22nd and 23rd).

Because they are closed and you are going to extend your visa the day after they will not charge you for overstay.

But one thing expect it to be very very very (x3) busy on Wednesday

Edit: // Added Ps

Ps: You could have gone on Friday, the extension starts on the day the "permission of stay" ends (23rd July) and not as you think on that Friday

I might better go there at 8 am then

tnx

And you could have done the extension early.

The 30 days start counting from the day you were allowed to stay until, regardless of when you apply for the extension.

As said, always a good idea to go a few days early.

Wednesday will be ok though.

+1. You never know when the unsuspecting bank holiday will catch you out!

Actually it is the government holiday, like the 23rd, that are not indicated on Bank calendars that catch people out.

8am too late. I got there at 7.45 & already there was an orderly queue of 15. Doors/tickets open promptly at 8am; watch out for agents pushing in with bundles of passports. Did my re-entry the other day; in & out in 6 minutes. Brilliant service.

I do not think immigration is going to care if it was a public holiday or not, just like banks do not care if its a bank holiday when something is due on that day

Unless very very lucky and officer is in a good mood, they might over look it, but otherwise expect to pay for overstay, or take a trip to the airport, which might end up costing the same anyway.

Immigration does take account of holidays and does allow application on first workday after such without penalty.

It is standard policy for immigration not to charge for overstay due to a holiday as long as the person applying for an extension goes on the first day it is open.

I thought that openings hours were from 8'30 and assumed that the doors would open at that time too.

I was charged over stay an Nongkhai border at 7am on the day visa expired., ie expiring on 1st, i was crossing on the 1st at 7am

We are talking about getting an extension, not leaving the country.

When Tuesday is a holiday (and your last day allowed in Thailand) you cannot get an extension as immigration is closed.

So you get an extension on the first day when immigration opens. No overstay charge.

When you do a border-run one day late, you pay overstay. You do not have an excuse, you could have perfectly left the day before, borders are not closed on holidays.

I would go about 7.30 and get in the queue

^^^ Since he was fined for overstay on the same day the visa expired, I prefer to think it was because they didn't like the look of lemoncake.

If you worked 15 hrs a day 7 days a week people might not like the look of you either, poor lad must look like a train wreck working them hours year in and year out.

Whilst we are here about immigration whats the deal with a residency certificate...... is that issued on the spot or you need to come back later ?

Resident certificate can be immediate or up to weeks later depending on office.

Ughhh, thanks.

Wow! one hour early. If it justifies to wait an hour outside before opening, things must get pretty hectic at opening.

You have stated many times that you work here, so WP is sufficient for anything pretty much. I have not needed RC for years, just use the WP.

I read your posts ?

Excellent quote for me where i said all of it

1. I do visa runS

2. The time frame when i was at the border

3. I had business for over a decade

4. I worked for over a decade

The expiration date of your visa does not matter it is your permit to stay date that counts.

Suspect your permit to stay date was the day before.

Just came back from immigration.

I arrived around 7.35 AM and I was in luck because there was 1 free car parking space. A couple of people in front of the door and many more scattered around making copies and such. I had done all this before going there.

When the doors opened at 8 am, an officer stood in front of it and asked everybody to make 1 line. It went nice and smooth. Everybody got a ticket for his/her specific needs and from there it went very quick. From living room to living room it took me little more than 1 hour and 15 minutes. However, I live near the immigration office in Jomtien.

When I left, the place was packed. TNX for the tips because going at 7.35 am or 8 am made a big difference. Next time I'm going to give the afternoon a try. If I don't like what I see I can always come back in the morning the next day.
