NSC chief undermining his credibility by saying too much, Democrat MP warns

BANGKOK: -- Democrat party-list MP Peerayos Rahimmula yesterday called on National Security Council (NSC) secretary general Lt Gen Paradorn Pattanathabutr to assign a spokesman to explain the facts about the peace dialogue to Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN), Malaysia and the public. He added that as the team leader, Paradorn did not need to explain everything.

After reports about the BRN claiming that Thai officials had breached the Ramadan ceasefire conditions, leading to attacks in Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat, Paradorn insisted that the Thai side had followed the procedure and nobody had breached any part of the agreement.

In response to this, Peerayos said Paradorn should not be explaining everything personally because it was not appropriate and undermined his credibility.

Meanwhile, three operative teams of 36 paramilitary rangers engaged in a gunfight early yesterday with Runda Kumpalan Kecil (RKK) insurgents on Tawae Mountain in Narathiwat's Rangae district. They later raided the insurgents' base and seized various items including 53 rounds of M16 ammunition and seven camouflage uniforms.

As part of the "4569" strategic plan, the team trekked for 12 hours since Sunday to find the RKK base in the mountain. They went on the hunt after receiving a tip-off that wanted insurgents chose to lie low at this base. During the raid, the teams found 10 suspected insurgents in the valley where six shacks had been built and engaged in a 30-minute gunfight before the suspects fled. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, Army deputy spokesman Colonel Winthai Suwaree said the troops were not employing violence in the operations to search and arrest suspects during the holy month of Ramadan. He cited the incident on Friday in which suspected insurgent Masupian Mama, 35, was killed, saying the suspect was the first to open fire.

Winthai cited the peaceful arrest and later bail release of bombing suspect Amlee Jehsoh as an example of the authorities' intention not to use violence.

As for the operation in Tawae Mountain in Narathiwat, he said it had been completed peacefully, though ill-intentioned people used camouflage uniforms, like the seven found in the camp, to make the public believe that the troops were to blame for the attacks.

Meanwhile, at about 7am yesterday, Thai authorities found banners campaigning for the ousting of Army and police officers, such as Paradorn and Southern Border Provinces Administration Centre chief Thawee Sodsong. The banners were found in 38 locations in Narathiwat's Tak Bai, Rangae, Muang, Sungai Padi, Waeng, Joh I Rong, Chanae and Bacho districts.

The authorities have also beefed up security in the area, especially at temples during the Buddhist religious holidays.

Separately, in Narathiwat's Rusoh district police yesterday arrested one of two suspects wanted for the death on Friday of former paramilitary ranger Asmadee Awaeniya, 24.

The suspect is Nirossali Tohni, 28, who was wanted along with his elusive accomplice Masaru Kareng, 29. The victim's wife Is-ham, who was also injured in the shooting, identified Nirossali as the one riding a motorcycle for the shooter Masaru, but Nirossali denied any wrongdoing.

Would seem that a skill upgrade is needed including some basic target practice.

Half an hour of shooting and neither side managed to hit anyone.

Nor did they manage to round up any of them.

Taken from Isranews.

Para-military rangers are civilians, most of them from poor families, who volunteer into the service which is risky and low pay. They are given a basic salary of about 5,000 baht a month plus a daily stipend of 68 baht which is usually meant for three meals of food. The fixed salary is mostly sent to their families in the upcountry.

Unlike the army officers who command the rangers at different levels from regiment down to platoon, the rangers have no ranks and their sacrifices are not widely recognized. Often, they were accused of misusing their power against the local Malay Muslims.

Because of the low daily stipend, the main dishes of most rangers are nam prik or spicy shrimp sauce and vegetables as they cannot afford other more nutritious food or meat. Attempts are now being made by their army superiors to increase their stipend to 120 baht a day.

Seems like the army is making headway. They recovered 53 rounds of M16 ammo, and some uniforms! They didnt mention if they were the pants or shirts. How can anyone fight without a uniform?? The army should concentrate on capturing people, not just their uniforms.

I missed the entire story.....

I was more interested in knowing what a mobile was doing on the windscreen....

More to the point, why a picture of a helicopter? Must have a few brave souls left to fly them givenThailand record with whirly birds.

'Avoid long explanations and hire a spokesman.'

Seems like the way to go. Works for the PM anyway.

Would be a good idea for my wife too! Especially since I never got any wiser at the end of the monolog...

Well I think that Democrat party-list MP Peerayos Rahimmula should keep his frakking nose out. As a party list MP he is another who lacks the skill set to actually win a seat and then starts mouthing off about negotiations and Leadership which I am sure he knows nothing about. Just because PTP are clowns, this is the ideal opportunity for the Dems to show they are not a bunch of clowns.

On the subject of the helicopter, it does look like a very old garmin or some other basic make, but I would be far more concerned that the Main Attitude Indicator (Artificial Horizon) has not been synched. It is indicating a screaming jeezus right hand turning dive w00t.gif

The standby horizon is indicating wings level. The weather looks a little shitty and when you go into cloud inadvertently the first thing you do is go on instruments and that means Main AI.

Fly the aircraft guys!

It is an older Garmin handheld GPS. It is a lot cheaper to use a suction mount than to ask Bell to alter or authorize the altering of the cockpit instrument panel to accomodate a nice stack as this requires a new airworthiness certificate. This costs a ...load of money for each aircraft. Germany did it and they could only afford about 20 conversions. Most of the UH1-Ds still in service are VFR only and would operate with a similar setup for navigational assistance like shown in the picture.
