Flood, landslide warnings issued for North

BANGKOK: -- Thirteen northern provinces were warned on Thursday of heavy rains and possible floods and landslides.

Chatchai Phromlert, director general of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), said the 13 provinces were Tak, Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Chiang Mai, Mae Hong Son, Lampang, Lamphun, Chiang Rai, Phayao, Phrae and Nan.

Urging people in at-risk areas to follow the weather forecast and disaster warnings for timely evacuation if needed, he said the DDPM had local officials monitoring the situation around the clock and preparing tools to aid people in case of emergency. People in need of assistance should call the hotline at 1784.

AYUTTHAYA: -- Ayutthaya police on Thursday concluded the charges that will be filed against individuals involved in the collapse of a suspension bridge that killed five people in the province's Tha Rua district in April.

Tourist protection centre set up in Phuket

PHUKET, July 25 - Thailand’s Tourism and Sports Ministry and other relevant agencies have set up a tourist protection centre on the Andaman Sea tourist island, targeting to improve safety in tourism as well as to tackle mafia-related problems, including black plate (illegal) taxi operators.
