BANGKOK, July 28 – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Sunday started her official visit to Mozambique, Tanzania, and Uganda to strengthen ties and boost trade and investment.

The prime minister, who is also the defence minister, said before leaving for her visit to African countries from July 28 to August 2, that Africa is a region with high potential for growth, abundant natural gas and mineral resources.

Mozambique has precious gems and Thailand can exchange its craft skills and technology to bolster investment with this African country.

Tanzania is rich in natural gas and mineral resources while wildlife conservation and ecotourism will be on the agenda during talks with this country, while Thailand will exchange academic knowledge in agriculture and fisheries with Uganda.

Besides strengthening trade and investment ties, her visit is aimed at exchanging knowledge in science, agriculture, fishery, and public health, Ms Yingluck said.

Regarding the gem industry, she said the trip will give an opportunity for Thai businesspeople to see potential investment. Initially, the cabinet has agreed to lift duty on imported gems and jewelry products that will be sold at the Bangkok Gems and Jewelry Fair this year. In the future, other tax-related measures will be discussed to promote the industry.

The visit is an initial step to developing relations between Thailand and African countries. Farming goods and energy resources will be discussed, paving the way for food and energy security cooperation in the future, Ms Yingluck said.

The prime minister also led a 50-strong delegation of Thai businesspeople from the gem, construction, automotive, mining and alternative energy industries to join her trip to the African nations. (MCOT online news)

I wonder if PM’s Office Minister Nalinee Thavisin will ge going with Yingluck as she is known for her facilitation of a number of financial, real-estate and gems-related transactions on behalf of Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s wife Grace Mugabe and other Zimbabweans.

If YS is going to exchange knowledge then she won't be needing a suitcase.

PTTs track record on energy has left beaches in Thailand, Australia and Indonesia covered in oil.

Agriculture.... That rings true. Wanna buy some rice?

And who has gem mines in Africa that would want to get the gems into Thailand duty free?

Or maybe a disabled blimp.

KY could try to sell that blimp to a safari park while she's there as long as she warns them not to fly over any giraffes as the thing becomes unstable if it gets more than few metres off the ground. Actually might be best to avoid lions too in case the crew needs to do an emergency bail out like last time.

Is it me or does anyone else notice that whenever something important is going on here that she goes n a trip. Parliament is in session and she leaves. AGAIN.

This is great leadership from afar wonder who she learnt that from if all hell breaks loose she can say it is not my fault i was out of the Country/

You're catching on.

This is great leadership from afar

I thought that the leadership from afar came from Dubai - not that I'd call it "great".

Moving targets are harder to hit!

Wow - PM and DM of a country, head of a democratically elected government; and she still has time to travel, do the job of the FM and look after family business. Even willing to share her tacit knowledge to help the developing countries of Africa.

Mulitasking or what? Got to be in line for some more UN awards and honorary doctorates.

Mozambique Tanzania, Uganda.

An Interesting choice of potential trading partners or is it possibly to see how those particular countries have dealt with democracy and anti government movements in the past and now too ?

Lessons to be learnt at the behest of the puppet master.one is inclined to ask?

The three named countries hardly fire one with enthusiasm with regards to their legitimate trading potential,

As already stated parliament is about to go into session again, the political furnace is warming up a little more again thus no doubt the puppet master told sister to get away from the limelight,

Maybe need to send the team from the Saudi gem robbery 20 years ago, they were really good at making gems disappear.

Actually decomposing rice, as long as it is well fumigated, is considered a great delicacy in these countries smile.png Smart girl, kill 2 birds with 1 stone, along with a few million starving natives !

My initial thought was that they were using the slang usage of "boost" (to steal). But then I looked at the man to her right in the photo, and it's gone!

And what is she having a shifty at?

maybe while she is in s. africa she can kiss mugabe's ass

maybe while she is in s. africa she can kiss mugabe's ass

It's a family tradition, I seem remember her brother welcoming Mugabe as an honoured guest and dismissing all the complaints about his dictatorship, oppression and illegal activity.

Birds of a feather.

I was just wondering whatever happened to Nalinee Thavisin, the blacklisted dealmaker with Robert Mugabe?

Ah YES a new HUB of African investment.

They mention ties and investment so will that be 2 HUBS or HUBS x 2 or will they be combined into One HUB with 2 departments or will the HUB have one department controlling both aspects of the new HUB(S)?
