How much do u spend for a good life in Thailand.

Recommended Posts

First, i would like to congratulate you on becoming a father.

Second, I am genuinely confused. How could you possibly spend 100-120k per month in Thailand? (and presumably not notice)

I live in BKK with my GF and our 1 year old daughter. I have never counted up exactly, but i'll try now:

  • rent = 6k
  • electricity, water, internet = 2k
  • pocket money for GF = 6k (she buys all milk, nappies/diapers, and (some) food. And her transport)
  • money i spend on stuff for all of us = maybe 6k

So that's 20k for a small family in Bangkok and we don't feel like we scrimp much - i would say we are living "a good life".

Ok, there is probably some other (luxury) costs, which vary per month, and i haven't kept track of:

  • some alcohol, luxury food, massage, cinema etc etc = maybe 2k - 4k (hard to gauge exactly)

But still within 25k anyway, that's for sure. And even on an extravagant month (if we go on a trip to her hometown with Nokair), i couldn't imagine how it could go above 30k.

Enjoy parenthood!

6000 THB for a condo for 3 in Bangkok ????

If this is not scrimping, then I don;t know what is ?

Well, cost of rent varies widely depending on what part of Bangkok you're in. Hell, there's areas where you can get a house for 6k. Not everywhere is as pricey as Sathorn, lower Sukhumvit etc.

There must be 100's of these "budget/spending" threads already existing on this forum.

I can't understand why what other people spend in Thailand is of such interest or importance to people.

You have a better "topic" for a thread every Expat or "Long timer" in TH can contribute? tongue.png

25k for servants, can i have a job please? I have no rent and spend 20k a month,

If you really run into that problem, = "120k, i would not know how to spend it!"

I spend around 15-20k in an average month.

4,200 rent (in Bangkapi)

1,000 electric, water, and internet

500 petrol (bike is already paid for)

300 phone

Food and booze costs can vary a lot, obviously.

During the week I'd guess I average 100-200 a day, street food and one or two beers.

On the weekends I may take the gf out to a nice restaurant, or go out for a drink.

My girlfriend has a job so there's no need for a monthly stipend or shopping money or what have you. I just get the check when we go out.

You are living as expat are 21 years old and didn't realized that you are spending around 120k baht every month in the last three years because you never checked you passbook?

You must be a a lottery winner, bank robber or a son of wealthy parents who didn't spend their money to educate you. Or this is just a senseless fun thread

NO,

Internet, Casino - Poker Player ! As the OP announced in a posting. rolleyes.gif

-Naam-

A fellow country man of yours is the, in his expenses wisely acting tenant.

The house he rents is a typical Thai house, toilet, bathroom Thai style and kitchen downstairs in a stone walled compartment, above a second wooden floor,

big living-sleeping space-floor, 2 rooms on stilts and underneath that big open living space to chill out and park your vehicles.

One more plus, the house is in a quiet green area with few houses and space around it, at the outskirts of the small Amphur city. thumbsup.gif

Has no comparison with your admittedly "funny" beach shack. tongue.png

I do not know what it is worth, but, I think the land its built on and that location could be worth a good price.

Do not think that rural Thai people, old ones? know how to calculate a OK rent.

The same guy could rent, just now, a Expat built, older stone walled small house on nice piece of land nearby,

for similar 1.000.- Baht a month, from the old mother of the Lady, for whom one of her Ex-Falang BFs had built it once.thumbsup.gif

Photo, from a friends rented house? rolleyes.gif No!

Its a typical Isaan Thai house! Same you can see in rural Isaan everywhere.

Electric - of course!

Toilet, bathroom, running water - Thai style = No shower, no warm water and kitchen downstairs in a stone walled compartment,

above a second wooden floor, big living-sleeping space-floor, 2 rooms on stilts and underneath that big open living space to chill out and park your vehicles.

Aircon, no.

Maintenance costs? Never heard off from him about something he had to pay.

One more plus, the house is in a quiet green area with few houses and space around it, at the outskirts of the small Amphur city. thumbsup.gif

I do not know where, how, he lived before, but he had a good job on oil rigs in a hands on, but higher position and lives on a pension.

He lives now, in conditions, same Dozens of Millions of Thais are living! In a typical Thai rural Village Thai house.

Not better, not worth! His decision. smile.png

I think you cannot compare that with a dog kennel, or an outhouse? bah.gif

That would shame tens of millions of Thais who live in such a house he rents! whistling.gif

Yes, that would have No.1 priority,

No.2 priority would be a functional shower with hot water,

-as opposed to that dreadful bucket of cool water thrown at the back !

couldnt he just put a western toilet over the hole? can't cost much considering how little he is paying in rent.

He most certainly could. Must smell like roses in there.LOL. Isn't this thread about how much for a GOOD life in Thailand? That guy in BKK on 20K for a family of 3 is living a dream life. Why that 25K includes nappies, a trip to mrs Issan home, alcohol and luxury food items. Why he said he couldn't possibly spend more than 30K if he tried. I'll pass this one over to neversure. LOL

I am certain that 6K will get you something palacial in BKK. I mean that's 200 whole dollars/ $6.66 per day. You got cinema in there and jet setting. This reminds me some years ago of the guy who couldn't spend more than 10K per month even with a starbucks a day and regular bowling in BKK. I get a charge out of this stuff. How do they do it?

I didn't say palatial, but it would be pretty easy to find a 3 bedroom/2 bath house for that amount. Granted it wouldn't be walking distance to Nana plaza so if that's your top priority you'll have to keep paying what you're paying thumbsup.gif

Typical MNC expat package (not mine btw) - 360,000 baht per month expenses:

Monthly rent @ 115,000 baht for a 3 bedroom; Water and electricity @ 10,000 baht per month. 1 nanny/ 1 maid, 1 driver total @ 45,000 baht per month.

The international school 2 kids- @90,000 baht per month in total. Health insurance@ 15,000 baht per month. Monthly grocery bill @ 17,000 baht per month, total eating out around 20,000 per month.

Travel/holiday costs every year, including back home, comes to around 300,000 baht per year or 25,000 baht per month.

Other miscellaneous expenses-car, other entertainment items come to around @20,000 baht per month at least.

Total average monthly expenditure is @ 360,000 baht per month.

Sounds a bit tight, for safety add another 150.000 baht for unexpected miscellaneous expenditures,

and i know for a fact that go-go can and will go over 50.000 baht per month if you lose the plot,

so about 600.000 baht per month, not including any purchase.
