I've lived here 3 years and used the service quite frequently, but when they "updated" the site a while back, I think they really screwed the pooch.

It used to be simple and straight forward. No drop down menus and cutise pop up windows... It was easy to find what you wanted, order, and move on.

Now, there are drop down menus with the nationalities of food, then sub menus with the restaurant names, then you get to the menu. And, yes... there is a way to shorten the path there, but its still 3 clicks to get to the menu instead of one.

I could live with that, but my biggest bitch about the site is that you used to just mouse over an item name and it would give you a description of the item. Now, you have to click each item and wait for the pop up window to load, sometimes with a picture, so you can see what it is. Then click to close the window to go back to the menu to keep looking. It makes browsing a menu take 10x longer.

It's just stupid form over function. What the hell was wrong with the previous straight forward layout without the cutsie shit?

And, yes... I'm investing a lot of time to post on Thai Visa about a stupid problem. My hope is that others feel the same and will send them feedback as I have done and get them to fix the usability of the site.

Maybe it's just because I switched to Windows 8 this week, but I just can't stand it when companies change things and add a bunch of worhless glitz without ever considering how the user wants to USE the product.

I never use Food by Phone because I hate the way they overcharge for a lot of things. I do use ChefsXP quite often though. I have similar issues with their website. They have disable right clicking. This might seem trivial, but I would like to compare different menus and options by opening them in different tabs. That's just not possible on their site. Nobody's perfect ....

pressing/holding ctrl button, while clicking the link, opens the link in a new Tab (Firefox)

There's a parallel thread running in this same forum section now on the recent re-design of the ChefsXP website. And, IMHO, it's also taken a serious turn downhill with the new redesign.

I'd sure like to know who's the monkey who's foisting all this c**p web design on the customers of these businesses.

Websites are supposed to make it easy and inviting and convenient for customers. Not want to make them run away in annoyance and frustration.

I know this is tangent to the topic. A couple of friends and I were recently discussing a similar topic which was that in general small business websites are getting more and more frustrating to use. As the op has stated, the web designers seem to be in love with form over function.

Is this a symptom of how the latest generation of web designers are taught? There seems to be zero regard for the end user and usability of the finished product.
