Grenade lobbed at Prem aide's home; nobody hurt
THE NATION

BANGKOK: -- A hand grenade was hurled at the house of Vice Admiral Pajun Tamprateep, a close aide to Privy Council President Prem Tinsulanonda, in the early hours of yesterday. It did not explode and its safety pin had not been removed.

No one was injured but police were called to investigate the incident at the house at Moobaan Ruenrom in Taling Chan district of Bangkok.

Police removed the grenade as evidence and for further examination of possible fingerprints and other clues.

Pajun said the incident occurred at 3.09am.

He and his wife were resting when they heard the sound of a plant pot shattering in front of their home. At dawn, Pajun's wife discovered the hand grenade while cleaning the area.

Pot deterred explosion

It appeared the device had hit the pot and broken it, said Pajun.

Talingchan district police identified the grenade as being Russian-made and believed the culprit used a small alley next to the residential compound to get close to the house.

Pajun said he didn't want to make a big fuss or link the incident to the upcoming anti-government protest by the Pitak Siam group. However he will be joining the group's protest on Sunday.

The pin was not removed ? Police are looking for some clearly determined offenders

However he will be joining the group's protest on Sunday.

There's that settled then. :whistling:

It's hard to find good help nowadays. At least he didn't throw the pin at the house.

Hmmm....legally speaking, could he claim to be a shy well-wisher giving him a grenade as a gift.

"Pot deterred explosion" - you have to wonder who was smoking it, the culprit or the reporter.

They did not remove the pin so the police would not accidentally apply their standard routine of the "large firecracker".

I am surprised that the police didn't remove the pin to check for fingerprints and put the grenade down on the desk.

One doesn't have to be a genius to work out which political grouping was responsible for this laughable incident (put it in the same category as faked Al Quaeda movies, although to be fair that involved making a slight effort).
