I am on a non imm O based on retirement and have my account with Bangkok Bank. Earlier this month I succesfully opened a second account with Krungsri (yellow bank) All good but I got a couple of curve balls on the way. Possibly only the practices of the branch in Chiang Mai but it may help if anyone plans to do this. Sorry Sir can not open a new account if you are over 70. Handed over my passport and explained that I am still in my fifties! Confirmation from mobile provider that my account is in my name. Easy enough, AIS is next to the bank. Thai DL or long term lease were not accepted, had to be a CofR which is a pain in Chiang Mai and only free if you don't need it before Xmas. Was asked for my address in home country. I do have one but can see that being a problem for others if they insist. My National Insurance number (tax) in UK. I claimed not to have one and was not pressed. Overall not too painful and I did get my account but was there for about 90 minutes and much stricter than when I first opened an account.
