American man accused of producing and owning child porn arrested on Sukhumvit

BANGKOK: -- A 62-year-old American man was arrested at an apartment on Soi Sukhumvit 67 for his alleged involvement in child pornography.

Immigration Police announced the arrest yesterday, saying that they raided the residence of the former flight attendant, Ronnie Lee, on August 7 and found many child porn CDs in his possession.

Authorities also revealed two other arrests of American citizens in Thailand. Anthony Michael Maki and Julie Ann Maki were arrested at Surat Thani’s Koh Samui on August 1 on money laundering charges.

Please don't get me wrong and assume that I would ever defend someone who has been convicted of a child porn crime (or any true pedo crime). But can we keep in mind that this person has only been accused -- not yet found guilty? Why should his image and name be plastered over the papers when he hasn't been proven guilty? The media does that all the time -- convict the accused to be guilty in the press before he has entered into the legal process. The truth is that once your name and image appear in the papers associated with these types of charges, terrible damage has been done even if it's proven you were not guilty.

Personally, if the guy is found guilty in an honest court of law, then I have no problem with making the public aware of who he is, where is lives, and any other private detail -- he's lost all rights to privacy. As a matter of fact, I don't care if they decide to have a public stoning, just like back in the days of JC.

You either haven't been here very long or don't yet understand how it all works. One or the other. The police are either directly involved in the sale of such material (and everything else), or they collect daily tea money from the vendors to permit it to be sold.

There is a video on youtube that shows a Thai policeman collecting tea money from a child porn vendor in Pattaya. The policeman actually pics up one of the CDs and looks at it. This is a daily event.

That is generally correct. Those of you who speak Thai and watch Thai news will know they are always talking about foreign pedophiles, and warning single moms that they are targets of these men, to have sex with their children.

I have been offered it in Panthip before and I know for a fact that the DVD vendors there pay the Police as I used to know one or two of them.

Did you invent this ranking whilst sitting on the potty voiding your bowels? You haven't the slightest clue as to he subject matter have you? What does one term a society that accepts the use of children in brothels or as abused child labour? Have you visited the Cambo-Thai-Burma border region at all? Have you ever been in Thailand?

When I read the article about the young lady (child) who had been assulted by the extended male family, I certainly did not attribute this action as being Thai, but more toward animal behavior.

I think the newspapers and many people should think in terms of family and all non family could be referred to as 'neighbors'. It would save newesprint, arguments, etc on public forums.

In one episode of 'Lie to me', the fast talking short actor, showed picture of young girls to the college athlete to determine that he did not rape the high school girl.

I fink' that same method be introduced for visa interviews for these countries with high number of kiddie fiddlers. Put sensors on their forehead linked to a monitor while they watch a slide.

In Nigeria I have to get a clearance from the national DEA CHIEF before I can apply for Thai visa.
