I will be going to Penang soon to apply for my Multi Entry O Type Visa based on the grounds of mariage and have never been there before.

Can anyone please advise where to stay, preferbly near the Royal Thai Consulate. Any info would be appreciated. I have a maximum budjet of around 1,500 - 2,000 baht per night.

Cheers

The Royal Thai Consulate is in a suburban residential area of Georgetown so any hotel in the city or on the beach north of the city can be used. Most people, including me when I made the trips, stay at the Continental Hotel on Penang Road if they can afford the 1,000 or so baht. It is a good business class hotel and close to markets/money changes/restaurants/visa services. You may want to have a visa service take care of the trips to the Consulate as they are about the same price as doing it yourself when you consider the taxi fare.

I do not have experience with current visa services but believe the front desk of hotel offers it from earlier reports. You should be able to find more information with a search. But be aware multi entry O visas are often not being issued by Penang from recent reports. At first it appeared this was only for first time applicants but some seem to feel nobody is getting them. KL is still reported to issue them last month.

If you can meet the 400k bank requirements of extension you might want to consider that if indeed multi entry visas are getting harder to find.

Mr Muutu (spelling) rings a bell for the visa service in Penang, and like Lop says, it is much less of a hassle and you wouldn't do it any cheaper yourself. Marriage O's from Singapore are straightforward at present I hear.
