Daughters Passport Proplem

Featured Replies

Hi

My step daughters thai passport will not have the required 6 mths before expiry when we return to Thailand next March and is 8 days short of hitting the required 6 mth mark.Ive spoken to my travel agent who assured me that the airline will let her travel out and that while we are in Thailand (we are there for 6 weeks) we can get her a new passport which last time only took 5 days to receive.Does this sound right to everyone as I don't want a problem at the airport, your views please.

She can travel on an expired passport to Thailand so no problem and passport issue only takes a couple of days so as long as Thai paperwork (has ID card) is in order no problem there either.

We have no Thai ID for her and we didnt have one when we obtained her passport is that a problem?

How old is your daughter? It is now compulsory for all children older than 7 years old to get an ID. Not a big deal (so long as she is already registered on the house book, and I'm guessing she is). Took us 20 mins to arrange a new ID for my daughter after she turned 7.

She is 5 yrs old now and is in the family book.

Should be fine then - being on family book or having ID card is the key. Those born overseas often get passport from Embassy but when they try to get new one in Thailand are not registered so then a serious issue until they can get paperwork in order.

Only one hobble you need to consider. If the mother does not have sole custody over the child, the legal father of the child will need to co-sign the passport application.

Any reason you don't apply at the embassy while still abroad?

Than no problem.
