Crown for teeth in Thailand?

Hello,

I have a molar which has been root treated twice. Filled with amalgam, one side was broken and dentist put a metal circle, tight it and filled it with amalgam.

After 25 years, seem the amalgam is contracting and one side of my tooth is asking to fall. Now I eat only on the "safe" side. I have no pain at all as there is no more root.

There is no much left on top of my teeth except the amalgam. I hope the base is OK . I m not in Thailand now, will go probably to Thailand in 3 weeks.

Here In Europe crown cost probably over 2000$.

A dentist in Thailand told me 2 years ago to remove the amalgam and make a crown. She told me it would cost around 7000 bahts. I told her I have this tooth for years and it can wait.

Did you have some experience in Thailand already with crowns? . I will stay in Thailand for 6 months or more.

View the cost in Thailand, money is not a problem.

Looks scrap to me, get an implant I have two they are great.

+1

Ditto .. I have some implants.

But most likely takes 2 visits, suggested about 3 months apart.

Prices vary significantly ... from B40,000 to B 80,000+

If you are in Bangkok, I can recommend.

EDIT ... just reread the OP.

If you have seen a dentist here and she recommended a crown and the quote was circa 7,000 Baht ... that is about what I paid and certainly not 'over the odds' (priced too much).

I had one molar crowned at Bangkok, about 10k baht six years ago. The Dentist was compenent and I've never had any problems.

In my case, part of a filling fell out so I went to have it replaced. The tooth fell apart and could not be refilled, so a crown was suggested. I'm not a dentist but if there is a solid tooth structure to attach a crown to, I'd favor that before an implant.

Just my two satang :)

I had a root canal done (finished) a week or two ago. Assuming the crown element was the last two visits (different dentists at the same practice), the crown work cost me 15,000B. Not Bagkok but about 100 kms away.

I have had good crowns & a small permanent bridge done here

prices were of course much better than the USA

Here is their fee list

http://www.gracedentalclinic.com/pricelist-eng.html

Now that I live here I tend to use these folks too

Here is their fee list

http://www.elitesmilecm.com/fee.html

That grace dental clinic is way over the odds, but the elite smile guys is about what I pay ... certainly competitive ... good choice.

True David

You know Grace got a bit too big for their britches IMHO smile.png

They use to be packed with falangs & then raised prices

Which is why I use Elite now but sometimes will use Grace for

a filling etc.

I went to the dentist for 2 crowns and root canals, about 4 visits in all. Total cost was 8,000 baht.

I go to the local Dept of Health and get the recently qualified dentists and sometimes students to do it.

A couple of years ago, I went to a normal dentist and paid 9000 baht for root canal and crown.

I have just had my root canal treatment at Thai Smile Dental clinic , Jomtien Beach . And will be back for a crown , root canal and crown together cost me 17000 THB . Crown alone is 7000.

Very good dentist and a root canal specialist works there.

I do not need root canal. My teeth have been devitalized 2x already in 15 years. I think I m done with amalgam.

What are the best crown to get, gold? I will go with the best quality.

I hope it s all I need. I saw online there are new technoloies like inlay...., onlay....

I have a couple implants, but if you can have it crowned, have it crowned. If the choice is bridge or implant, implant all the way.

Not really any pain with the implants, as I don't think you have any feeling in the bone,

I had no pain with mine, they do have to be careful depending where they are of sinus cavity and you might need a sinus lift also.

I must say Im extremely happy with mine and curse the English love of sugar!!

Over the years I have had a number of crowns, always use the Dental Hospital on Suk Soi 49.

Cost of crowns varies with type of material used and that in turn relates to cosmetic concerns which for a back molar may not be relevant.

Yes it s my back molar. So esthetic is not a factor.

How they fix the crown? If there is no much support left? .

What I don't understand is how they can cut the side around the tooth, plus cut inside the tooth for root treatment , then put a crown which must stand kilos of pressure.

Actually believe the high grade gold was/is preferred for being soft enough to fit better than the cheaper versions (but that may not be as critical now as in the past when molding was not as exact - totally cermatic crowns are available these days). For support they will normally insert a metal pin into the root area and cement that in place first and then attach the crown to that and any remaining tooth structure. If tooth gone and do not want implant a bridge might be an option.

Bridge sucks because they cut 2 good adjacent teeth.

In this case i would go implants

I think I need to know how deep my tooth is broken. Only new X ray can say.

Now I keep like that until I m in Thailand. Got no pain. I don't want to do anything with these European crooks of dentist.

Pushing their door cost already hundred of dollars.

Last bill of relatives :

1 cleaning, 1 light filling, 1 medium deep filling, total 23000bahts in Europe.

I would have paid in Thailand 500b cleaning, 400 light filling with composite , 600 bahts medium filling. Total 1500b . I know it because I have been 4 or 5 times in Thailand for same kind of work.

30$ charge just to schew in a band to see where teeth have some contacts. In Thailand it s all included. Drilling, filling, checking, 500bahts...and you can ask for injection for the price of a beer unless it s included in the total price of 500 bahts. 17$.

Cost me less to take a plane.

Cost 15x less In Thailand.

For Pete sake, what a bunch of crooks....

Perhaps you can get a cleaning for 500 baht (if nothing to clean) but expect most of use pay considerably more than that in Thailand when visiting a clean establishment (or even unclean).

What does that mean? You suppose to brush your teeth 3x a day.

You don't pay considerably more than that, maybe 1000 bahts if it really dirty.

People in Europe think Thai dentist are dirty, that you are going to die of infections,.... Sure, I don't know any Western dentist who will tell you to go to Thailand because dentist have studied in Europe, and they are ways cheaper than Europe. Instead they broadcast fears amongst our people to control price, their prices.

These dentists are gangsters. They are just a bunch of hypocrites, not hypocrat anymore http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hippocratic_Oath

  • 4 weeks later...

finally dentist told me to get a crown.

happy it s not worse. he prepared my tooth last day. 1.5h work. cutting, drilling , cleaning, copy up and down of my tooth,. etc...

no pain at all.

2 assistants and dentist working non stop.

funny thing, I just came at 6pm for X ray, I left will pretty much all done.

price will be 8000 bahts with crown that will be cemented in one week.

where do you get a crown for this price in europe/USA? only fixing a crown cost already 1500$ for some basic maintenance.

this dentist is really good. he is in pattaya dark side.

I will avoid implant. I don't see myself with screw in my bone. And it cost a lot plus the pain.

I sent pic to a friend to show to my doctor who has X ray of this tooth.

I had one like that fixed in the US. My dentist drilled out the old amalgam (carefully), did a 'build up' and pin to give the crown a base, and then fitted the crown.

You can get stainless/porcelain crowns in the 8k to 12k range. May 1 to 2k for the prep work on the tooth. The last crown I had done here cost me 10K for the crown and prep work. However, if you have money to throw away, the dentist are more than happy to supply you with crowns as expensive as you like.

done... told me gum will take 10days to adjust.

how long these ceramic fused metal crowns do? (black inside so I presume it's metal)

how to clean? special toothpaste? special brush (I use soft)?

told me to wait a few days before eating on it.

total cost 8k.total time 2.5 hours. (no root treatment Included as it was done years ago)
