Deputy House Speaker Denies Report Of 'Gambling Drivers'



BANGKOK: -- Deputy House Speaker Wisut Chainarun disputed reports that a number of drivers for Pheu Thai MPs were gambling right next to the Senate building in the Parliament compound.

Yesterday, Mr. Boonyord Suktinthai, a Democrat MP, announced in the Parliament that he has been told the drivers were playing Hi Lo, a Thai variant of Sic Bo dice game. Gambling is illegal in Thailand.

However, Mr. Wisut told the reporters he has dispatched officials to investigate the matter and they reported that the drivers were merely playing chess, not Hi Lo.

When reporters told him there is photographic evidence of the gambling, Mr. Wisut told them they should phone him about the matter if they ever see any gambling taking place inside the Parliament again

This ought to take the heat off Wisut for the smoking gun financial trail leading from his office to the unlucky red shirt bomber that carried out the terror campaign in Bkk back a couple of years ago until he unfortunately blew himself into smithereens along with the apartment block he was residing in.

What heat you say? Yes, you are quite correct, he was rewarded with a plummy PTP political position and so far as I know hasn't seen a courtroom for his misadventures.

What a load of rubbish, 99.9% of the people from the top to the bottom in Thailand gambles whether it be lottery or play Hi-Lo or other variances/games. I am sure they have much more important things to discuss in parliament. Or sadly maybe not.

easy way to check...get all the drivers together and a few chess boards and get them to play a few games...one suspects the drivers wouldnt know were to start with a game of chess...

The drivers were only following the BIB who were gambling while guarding Parliament from demonstrators. If the BIB can do why not the drivers? .

I would not mind if the drivers were gambling with Wisut's life, that would be possible. He has no honor, integrity or credibility to gamble with.

A stupid response, all he had to do was say quietly "thank you for bringing that to my attention, I will check on it and reprimand anyone responsible"

End of story, no publicity nothing on facebook and he wouldn't even have to do anything except get someone to tell the drivers to be more careful in future, do it where you cant be seem.

Now his denials and arm waving have made a big story out of it and trouble for the drivers and himself.

Hahah yeah if this story broke in a western country, for sure a media company would gather up a bunch of chess boards, get a film crew, and then put these guys on TV trying to play chess. But exposing bald lie that this one is not acceptable in Thailand. Chess is a game I love, and also a game I have never ever seen played anywhere in Thailand. By contrast, I saw chess being played a lot in Indonesia..

Does this guy even know what he says? The underlined part of his quote simply states that he admits gambling took place!

I see plenty of Thais playing chess, motorcy taxi drivers and others.

There is an old fella in the next soi from us who sits with his chess board and seems to have a different person playing him most days.

But that's not the important point, what is, is that the gent lied about what the cops were doing even though someone produced a photo.

Then when challenged about the riot police outside he lied again saying they were only traffic cops.

It would seem his automatic response to being challenged is to lie, even though it is easily proven that what he says is a lie.

How he has got through life to the responsible position he is in now with that attitude is beyond me.
