Hi all,

When booking flights I always search around to make sure I get the best price, 9/10 lastminute.com are the cheapest. Now I need to book flights the other way round, returning to Thailand but lastminute are producing higher rates than returning to the UK

Any one have some good advice on getting the cheapest flights to the UK and back?

Many thanks :o

I spent a long time searching and spoke to travel agents in Thailand, apparently the airlines price the flights at what the market will stand.Direct flights are from around 40-42000 baht non direct from around 32000 baht inc.taxes.There are special offers sometimes but you can't plan anything if you are waiting for these.

I had this problem earlier this year, made the mistake of believing that it was still cheap to buy tickets out of Thailand and had bought a single from UK so that I could buy returns out of Thailand ... Big Mistake!

In the end I bit the bullet and bought a cheap Gulf Air one way (which worked out about half the Thai return) to London and then returned to buying ex UK. Gulf was fine to travel with, in fact I preferred to Thai, but there is about a 4 hour stopover and longer sectors, so by the time I reached LHR was well and truly exhausted, felt like I'd flown from Oz.

However the advantage now is that I can get cheaper fares out of London, about 20% less. For example I'm flying Singapore Airlines for around 33,000Bt rt, valid 6mths and can change rt without penalty ... the cost out of BKK is almost 42,000Bt.

I accidentally flew Singapore because I couldn't get availability on Thai a couple of months ago and am so glad, a far superior airline in every way. Individual seatback screens, with movies etc on demand (a great way to make the time 'fly'), good food (even 'real' cutlery on some sectors), attractive crew (I'm talking personality as well as looks), newer aircraft ... Thai's are a bit jaded on the LHR route ... seats configured 3-4-3, the only grouch being that the seat pitch is less than on Thai I think, so if you're tall check this out. Although the overall journey time is something like an additional 4 hours I prefer it, as the journey is more relaxing. I can also use my Thai Orchid Gold card to accumulate miles and use lounge, check-in etc, with Singapore.

In the UK check prices with www.westeasttravel.com they provide the lowest prices on Thai (also do Singapore and Eva etc) and are very helpful, based in Hammersmith ... it can be a pain getting them on the phone though, so probably better to message them via the website. Staff are mainly Thai, Vietnamese. You can also book Singapore at quite competitive prices direct on the airline website.
