webfact
Cars Dealers Suffer From Yingluck's Populist PolicyBy Khaosod OnlineBANGKOK: -- Like her influential brother, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra led Thailand down the road of populist policies aimed at easing the financial burdens of the grassroot and low-earning populace. Among her trademarks is the "First Car Program" which exempts tax for first-time car buyers. The government insisted it would benefit the low-income citizens and boost number of car sales. But critics warned that the policy contributed to increased traffic jam in the already clogged roads of Bangkok.A number of car dealers across the country are now complaining about the "First Car" plan as well, charging that it distorted market demands and in fact damaged the car sales business in the Kingdom, reported our correspondent at Prachachart.Report from Japanese Chamber of Commerce indicated that in September, car sales from every manufacturer combined amounts to less than 100,000 cars, despite the sweltering promotion campaigns.Market analysts believed that the motor business would also shrink at least 5-10% this year, as the real demand in the market does not match the virtual demand estimated by the car industry.Car dealers interviewed by our correspondent explained that the supposed demand was drawn up in the previous period when the government announced ′First Car Program′. Excited customers rush to car dealers to place their orders to take advantage of the policy while it lasted.Full story: http://www.khaosod.co.th/en/view_newsonline.php?newsid=TVRNM056Y3hNREEzTlE9PQ==-- KHAOSOD English 2013-08-

Maybe Dear Yingluck should consider buying the excess vehicle production and storing in a warehouse somewhere... Popular Post trainman34014
But.....why are the dealers complaining when they knew this would happen after the crazy sales figures of last year ? Surely any sane man is going to expect a lean year and adjust his budget accordingly. The usual lack of foresight beyond tomorrow encountered here almost daily, one presumes.
Popular Post daiwill60
5555 This so reminds me of the Guy in the Luis Vitton monk case, who was very happy to change all those cheques etc for the monk and now that the monk has been nabbed he is losing out and crying. The car dealers, no doubt were all rubbing there greasy little hands together when car sales were booming for the year the scheme was running, and now this lot are crying into the milk.

Popular Post thaikahuna
A million more cars, an equal amount of poorly and untrained drivers adding more gridlock to an already untenable situation. The second hand car lots are already seeing the results of this boondoggle. You not only have all the pathetic cars from the floods a couple of years back you are now getting the repossessed new cars that people ran out to buy so they could get 100,000 Baht from the government. They just failed to realize they had to pay for those cars. The banks are the only winners in this fiasco.
ginjag
My old car is for sale at 410,000 bht -Toyota Vios 5 years low mileage. New Nissan Mitsu Honda eco start at that. so a glut of eco re claimed cars are on the market, 1 year old and have to sell at 350,000. New customers wanting an economical car are not going to pay the same price for a 5 year old when they can have new, or lower if they take a second hand year old. Car sales are going to have a big problem selling existing old stock. Thats apart from second hand more upmarket cars. I got a second hand Nissan March push button start air bags -reverse back warning -re obstruction fogs--spoilers the lot. Why do you think I sold my Vios. ?? And that's the way the governing elite wants to keep them. Don't ever have an argument with an Isaan farmer about how bad Thaksin was for the Kingdom or how bad the PTP's current policies are. Been there, done that some years ago, but with a Northern farmer. After hitting a brick wall for half an hour i said let me put it this way; i am Thaksin and i come to you with 1,000 Baht of the country's money in my hand and say 'Here you are Somchai, i will give you 100 Baht of this money and i will keep 900 Baht for my family; are you happy ? ' 'Yes ,says he' ''But why says i ?'' 'Because it's 100 baht more for me says he. '....so i said ''but why should he get 900 and you only get 100 ?'' His reply was ' because Thaksin the only man to give me any so he can keep more because he give me some nobody else give me , he is the best man for me '. The little things that Thaksin did for the people are remembered and cared about much much more than all the bad things the guy did. Basically they don't care what he got up to as long as they got their little share and they don't think he is a criminal. As far as they are concerned it's all the Democrats fault. What has all this got to do with car sales this year ? Not a lot; sorry i got sidetracked !

Popular Post eddie61
Thailand's populism will destroy Thailand as we all know it. It is simply unsustainable, and worries the s*** out of me for my kids future. Western democracies went from elitist to popular democracy via mass education and war. We are still trying to sort out the mess all that left, but there is at least a chance that it will work. The PTP Kleptocrats couldn't give a f***, I am sure, as their wealth is comfortably stashed in Singapore, Central Europe and the Carribean. When people work out the grim truth, the middle class taxpayers will be the real losers. The poor have nothing to lose, and the rich have most of it abroad. I feel absolutely sure that Thailand is heading for disaster on the present course, but somchai doesnt have the slightest idea watching his buffaloes arse by day and soap opera by night. The middle class groan and moan, but have no chance of changing the status quo. The Kleptocraccy dont care, and have their first class tickets booked. NeverSure
Well, those poor car dealers. Wow did they try to work me over when stocks were low - even on a late model nice used. Now I hope they wind up eating new and used cars for dinner. I have no sympathy except for the Thai people who have to pay for this.

If something doesn't sell at a certain price then it's too expensive...so lower the price untill some one thinks the price is right and it will sell. bigbamboo
Only one thing for it. The cars dealers are going to have to get in line behind the rice farmers, the rubber growers and the taxi drivers and get out on the streets and protest for financial support from the people they voted for. Who'll be next I wonder?
