webfact
Deputy PM Pracha affirms no use of force against rubber protestersBy English NewsBANGKOK, Aug 29 -- Deputy Prime Minister Pracha Promnok reasserted today that the government will not use force to disperse the rubber growers protesting in the South, saying security agencies have measures in hand to handle the mass rally on September 3.Pol Gen Pracha said the security agencies would only observe and provide safety for the protesters in Nakhon Si Thammarat. The National Security Council (NSC) also said the Internal Security Act (ISA) was not needed to handle the protest. He said many groups of rubber planters understood and would not join the planned mass rally on September 3 but only protesters in Cha-uat district of Nakhon Si Thammarat who did not accept the government's proposal.Gen Pracha said only 30 per cent of protesters were rubber growers, but that the rest were not local residents. Some belong to anti-government groups, he said, but so far arrest warrants have been issued for less than a dozen protesters. He claimed that a political party was behind the rally. The deputy premier said president of the rubber planters’ network from the four regions is satisfied with the government's offer of short term measures to help them. However, the rubber grower group from Nakhon Si Thammarat's Cha-uat boycotted the talks.Gen Pracha said he assigned the provincial governor to brief the planters to understand the measures.Under the terms of the offer, the government stood firm that it could not intervene despite falling rubber prices but planters could be helped by a government subsidising of their fertilizer cost at Bt1,260 per rai and providing loans to investors in the rubber industry. The deputy premier urged the rubber protesters to review their plan to stage nationwide protest on September 3 and reconsider their road and railway blockade in Nakhon Si Thammarat. He said the blockade has severely inconvenienced students, patients and disrupted the transport of agricultural products to market. RedBullHorn
The government still have not explained why rice farmers get 40% above market price, but rubber farmers have to settle for much less??? Infact he did. He reasoned that the government of Thailand is not in the position as a major player in the world market for rubber while the country is a major player in the world market for rice affecting world prices. siampolee
However although no physical violence is to be used it's fine to use assorted laws to possibly charge protesters and their supporters with terrorism. Indeed the delights of democracy under this administration are many faceted and the truth is distorted and seems to vanish into a black hole in a galaxy of wholesale deceit. interesting to note that those who fired on the demonstrators vanished without a trace or even an impediment to their departure. No doubt a red card get out of jail free pass had been issued to concerned players.
