Hello,

First of all, thank you so much for stopping by to read this and hopefully helping us. I am asking this on behalf of my fiance who is coming to visit me in a few days from the US. After he and I read the official websites of Thai Customs, we have got worried with the issue of whether or not he should declare his stuff at the airport Customs.

Apart from his personal stuff (e.g., clothes, shoes, eyeglasses, etc), he will bring a few bags of chocolate, 5 coffee mugs as souvenirs for my friends, and a female purse as well as a birthday present for me, which i don't know what it is. :o

my friends and I, when we return from overseas with a lot of stuff purchased aboard, never declare anything and just walk through the green channel and we are all fine -- every time. Therefore, I told him to just walk through the green channel becasue i don't see anything that deserves to be declared at the Customs. He wasn't sure if it would be a good idea to just do what i told him to for fear that he would asked to stop to check his luggage and that things would get ugly.

We would like you who have experiences and have probably entered thailand many times enlighten us about this Custom issue. What should my fiance do at the airport: declare or not declare, given the information mentioned above? Do they do random searches for prohibited stuff?

Thank you in advance for your help and advice. they are greatly appreciated.

Sounds all like "Personal Effects" that would not be on the declaration form, therefore they don't have to be declared. The value would be minimal.

If he wants to play it extra safe as the Red Line can be faster than the green, declare the stuff, and they will shake their head and usher him out.

Normally if I am in a hurry to get through, I will declare my laptop or mobile phone, technically you should, though nearly no one does.

i agree with khutan. they all sound like personal items to me and i wouldnt bother with declaring anything.

Go for green lane if your fiancé did not bring any illegal items, if the custom does check on the luggage, just mention souvenirs gift for Thai friend.
