Democrat MP to sue Sa-ngiam over terrorism allegation
The Sunday Nation

BANGKOK: -- The Democrat Party MP for Phatthalung, Nipit Inarasombat, vowed yesterday to counter-sue Sa-ngiam Samranrat, a political appointee at the Prime Minister's Secretariat, for an alleged false claim in a police complaint on Friday against Nipit and five other Democrat MPs that accused them of terrorism and security-related offences in connection with the ongoing protest by rubber farmers in the South.

He claimed the Criminal Court had rejected Sa-ngiam's complaint filed with the Police Crime Suppression Division. Nipit said he is now collecting information to file a defamation lawsuit against Sa-ngiam.

Thaworn Senneam, deputy Democrat leader, was among the six accused of terrorism by Sa-ngiam. He said the court's rejection of the case shows how naive Sa-ngiam was about legal matters. He insisted what he and five other MPs did was merely visit the protesting farmers in order to get information about their plight.

Thaworn said they were actually helping the Yinguck Shinawatra administration and urged the PM to dispatch someone with the authority to make decisions to the South to talk with the protesters.

The four other Democrat MPs accused by Sa-ngiam are Nakhon Si Thammarat MPs Witthaya Kaewparadai, Apichat Karikanjana and Chinnaworn Boonyakiat.

Thaworn said they also visited the farmers in order to prevent a possible crackdown on the protest. He said the government needed to talk with all protesting groups to solve the dispute.

Thaworn advised Sa-ngiam to re-read the law. "He's just a baby lawyer. But the premier has trusted this sort of team to work for her. It will only bring more damage to her," warned Thaworn, adding that it was the duty of MPs to help people bullied by the state. He warned the government not to push people too hard otherwise it would have to face the consequences. But he did not elaborate on what that might be.

Thai law is an ass.

Person makes complaint to police of criminal wrong doing. Police/system takes charge forward and charges wrong doer on criminal charge.

Defender sues private individual for a criminal accusation taken forward by criminal justice system. What a joke.

and if all else fails, just claim the charges and subsequent criminal conviction is politically motivated and say you dont recognise the law...that seems to work as well

Still giing to try it next time I get stopped for speeding...thumbsup.gif

Children at both ends of the playground sticking their tongues out at each other, " you sue me and I'll counter sue ".

These people are running the country ?

No they are not. This country is being run by the PTPredshirts.

The opposition is making a start at a great plan. File charges all over the place against them. Let them try to work themselves out of ridicules charges. How is letting them get away with such ridicules charges going to help unification is beyond me It just serves to deepen the wedge.

Its obvious that the separation between criminal and civil accusations is all over the place in Thailand.

How do you bring a civil accusation of terrorism? Why does a prosecutor or the police go forward with criminal accusations that have no merit? How do you sue a person for the police carrying forward a criminal charge?

The legal system doesn't function in Thailand to any logic that is comparable anywhere else I have found...

North Korea perhaps...biggrin.png

Well at least you can't get executed by mortar in Thailand..

Honestly, all I can conclude is that the people involved in stories like this have an average IQ of 70.

Or machine gunned down for porn....if this was the the case in Thailand...Pattaya would be under an atomic mushroom...biggrin.png

Average IQ of 70...think your being too generous....what is medically defined "IQ" to be classed as an imbecile ?

Once you reconcile that the person standing in front of you as a pooyai went through the Thai education system 40 years ago, it makes it possible to forgive the nonsense that comes out of their mouth.

Your broader comments about the legal system seem likely true, although in this specific case the article suggests that the prosecutor has already decided not to take the case forward (and rightly so, of course).
