smilingbuddah Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 We just moved to Mukdahan Thailand and brought our dog a 14 kilo American Cocker Spaniel with us. We are trying to find a good quality dog food for him, balanced with medium price. In Canada we fed him Acana grain free which was a high quality dog food. We just bought some GM Super Turbo although can't find a ingredient list for this food. We have not tried it yet as we brought a little Acana from Canada. Can anyone comment on this food or recommend some other food for him ? thank you for all your help S.B.
wayned Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 The best kibble that you can get is usually only available from vets and is very expensive. Science Diet, Ukanuba and one other - forgot the name - are usually available and there are different mixtures depending on the type/age of your dog. Since you only have one dog the price should be acceptable. I have raised golden retrievers and have had as many as 23 so the price was unacceptable so I use, and still use, Pedigree dry food supplemented with boiled chicken innards, rice and veggies, no bones. Never heard of GM Super Turbobut here's some info that I found: Dog food grade premium turbo GM (GM TURBO PREMIUM DOGFOOD) SUPER GM TURBO (GM Tops Super Turbo) Tops Super premium grade dog food formula.Dogs for growth. AlfGarnett Posted September 1, 2013 Posted September 1, 2013 I feed my dogs this, and another brand, F-1 (32% protein) Purple. Firstly the age of your dog has some bearing, as this is a high protein food and not so good for fully grown/older dogs apparently. Both brands do a cheaper version with same basic ingredients, just less protein. Secondly cost, my dogs don't need to eat a lot of this due to the high protein, but you only will notice it over a long period of time, so will save you money eventually. I have got the local petshop down to 800b for 15kg of Gm Super Turbo, but I need a new bag every 3-4 days, and they no this! I will downgrade the protein levels to the cheaper ones (same brands though) when they are fully grown. Brands sold in supermarkets get a very bad press, and with a bit of research you will see why. Anyway, good product ( you will see and smell when you open it )and am happy to use it, but they will try and overcharge you for it. Just try F-1 too to see if your dog has a preference. Good luck.
smilingbuddah Posted September 2, 2013 Author Posted September 2, 2013 Thank you for your help We will try the GM Super Turbo first as we have bought a small bag already S.B.
Cuban Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Feed a BARF based diet - include raw sea fish mackerel if the local Tesco-Lotus carry them. Dogs are not designed by nature to eat biscuits made from rice. If you are not sure about this - please look at the design of your dog's teeth.
ataloss Posted September 4, 2013 Posted September 4, 2013 Try Google. Most dog foods are essentially the same, dried renderings from chicken and cattle slaughter houses mixed with the retailer's grains of choice to give it that, je ne sais quoi, - caché. Tip toe thru the aisles of your favorite vet to ring up their 2000-3000B sacs of specialty renderings . It's a little like your better-half thumbing his nose at a perfume retailing at $20 when there are 'better' selling for $200, little realizing they're essentially the same with only the fragrance du jour setting them apart - the bottle is the expensive bit at at $.20, not the liquid. Like 'premium' dog food they charge what the market will bear. But I digress, try BOKDOK brand which is bagged in varying colors differentiating the protein percentage: Makro bags it under their own name at a third more in cost. Then again it may probably be best to go 'primal'; but beef bourguignon can prove expensive over the long haul.
