To me that is indeed the most fascinating part of the case. The fact a rich moron

is driving around drunk/stoned and killing people is just another day in the life here.

But when this policeman was killed, the first move of the Thai police was to try and

stitch up a fall guy in exchange for money. The beat policemen have to be a bit

nervous when they could see how quickly they can be thrown under the bus.....

So clearly the Thai police mafia is not modeled on the Italian mafia, as I believe

in the Italian mafia one of the cornerstones is to take care of their own.......

Wrong. The general has executive powers that could move this case along, especially a directive to the Foreign Ministry to check on the guy's passport status.

And why on earth are you talking about the amount of money he has to pay? The only issue here - nothing else matters - is seeing justice served, not compensation (until ordered by a court).

One other point here, if I can get political, is that the general is missing a golden opportunity to give himself a little nudge into folk hero status by going after a big case like this and ensuring REAL justice is done. Now that the Thaksinator is out of the way, the people don't have a hero, and there is certainly room for one. A big case that resonates with the "little people" needs to be cracked to give the people some hope, and this one has a huge target painted on it.

Extradition requires bi-lateral extradition treaties. It is also often only for particular crimes. There may be various reasons why extradition isn't an option.

To be honest, it happens to so many, so it's kinda' a trend - I do believe, they allow them on "purpose". If you exile yourself, they don't touch you.

It's a "mai pen rai / avoid to much fuss / limit the loss of face" -thing. Many of the cases involve to many "other" people, that has not been named. So they limit the scandale by having one guy taking the hit. The award for that, is that they do not cancel your passport, at least not until you reach a safehaven. But other than that, they let you run....

Just about the most disgusting post I ever read on this or any other forums.

A mistake? Drugged up and drunk, he speeds along Sukhumvit, hits a policeman, drags him along the road, kills him, tries to get an employee to be framed for it, refuses to see the police, buggers off to Singapore where he catches the longest flu ever.
