Theft from Korean late-night swimmers on Pattaya Beach

PATTAYA:--Early on Wednesday Morning Police were called to Pattaya Beach in front of the Tropicana Hotel in Central Pattaya to assist two Korean Tourists who had been robbed of their possessions which they left on the beach while enjoying a late-night swim.

Police met with Mr. Lee Sang Ltiol aged 35 and his 21 year old girlfriend. The pair had decided to go for a swim and as the beach was well-lit they decided to leave their personal belongings wrapped in a t-shirt and stuffed in a shoe on the shoreline.

As the pair enjoyed their swim two Thai men arrived on a motorbike and the passenger approached their belongings and took them before driving off in the direction of South Pattaya.

A witness to the incident, Khun Narong aged 33, did attempt to chase the assailants but they were able to make-good their escape.

Items stolen include two Samsung Galaxy S3 Smart Phones, 60,000 Baht and 1,250 US Dollars along with their passports, ATM card and Hotel key.

I am sorry, but in thi instance I suggest that the Koreans are sent to jail for excessive stupidity.

Going for a night swim with more than USD 4,000, passports, and two Galaxies and leaving the stuff unattended? The mind bogles.

Guess it was his T-shirt rather than his girlfriends. Pity, would have a been a more interesting picture.

Not if she looks like most of the Koreans I see here in Siem Reap.

This was just on the Thai news.

Nice haul...I'm in the market for a used S3...maybe I'll get a PM.

Truly amazing. Some of these claims of people robbed in the wee hours of the morning suggest stunning naïveté or that the "victims" are heavily insured with liberal travel coverage from a gullible company.

60000 baht , whats the point in carrying all that cash around ?

Maybe he believed it would be safer to leave it at the beach than his own hotel room .......

come on guys they came from a crime free country?? they trust everyone, first time here, as far as we know, but they don't know the score..as we do

You forgot the 1200 USDs so more like B 100k. I guess it's normal in Korea to go out on the town with $ 3000 in one's wallet!

and had it gone missing from his hotel room, the pundits here would be asking why they thought it was a good idea to leave it there.

ain't no winning round these parts.

the truly stupid thing they did was go swimming in that water

I am making a wild guess here but someone carrying that much cash probably doesn't stay in a 300 Baht flop-house but in a hotel that actually has a safe.

Their travel insurance will not cover them for leaving their possessions unattended in a public place

They could be in luck, an ad appeared today on TV classified for a Korean origin S3 phone, so at least they should be able to replace like fo like.
