When are people once again take personal responsibility for their own actions. Can't anyone see that it would be of your own choosing to walk thru the opening. You don't think that the US has put a fence around the entire Grand Canyon, do you?. Everyone should know that it is unsafe to lean over a cliff too far. Please don't wait for the city to put cotton balls everywhere in case you slip and fall. The woman made a mistake; one that she won't make again. Looking for someone to blame other than herself is ridiculous.

looks like she landed in the local rubbish dump

She did. Famous viewpoint or not, everyone just throws their garbage over there. That's what broke her fall.

The gaps in the railing originally had lighting bollards in them. They got nicked. Then they put shrubs in clay pots in front of them. They disappeared too. Thousands of tourists stand in front of that railing every week. It was an accident waiting to happen.
