PATTAYA: -- The Father of a senior Police Officer from Chantabouri Province became the victim of a 300,000 Baht Gold Necklace snatch on Sunday afternoon in front of Soi 8 on Jomtien Beach.

The victim, Khun Bachan aged 64, had come to Pattaya for a short stay with his family and was staying at the Royal Cliff Beach Resort. On Sunday he went to Jomtien Beach and during the afternoon went to use a toilet on the opposite side of the road. As he returned back to the beach, two men on a motorbike drove past Khun Bachan, and the passenger on the bike snatched his 10 Baht-weighted gold necklace featuring three Buddhist amulets attached to the chain.

The victims son and his position as security adviser to the Minister of Natural Resources and the Environment afforded the victim special attention from the Police after a call from the Chonburi Provincial Commander to Police on Jomtien Beach to locate and arrest those responsible without delay was made.

Seems to me he was just asking to get mugged, there are a lot of poor people about in Thailand and flaunting a 10 baht weight gold necklace is a bit silly to say the least.

Hogwash! A person should have the right to walk safely in public without being accosted, no matter what their wealth. Attitudes by poor people stating that they do not have this right is a reflection upon the person making this statement, not the person doing nothing wrong, and just continues the current problems. What a stupid statement.

so all police now busy catching those thieves while murderers and rapists still walk around

if a tourist gets robbed and molested maybe they are gonna look in to it but usually they catch those by accident or after tipoffs

a darwin nominee walking around with a big gold chain gets all the attention cos its the father of a police man

If you are stupid enough to walk around with a 10 bath gold necklace in Jomtien you deserve to get mugged.

Don't misunderstand, he will probably get it back since BIB might already know the thieves, this was a planned robbery and not just a drive by theft.whistling.gif

Just Bad Karma. The 300,000 Baht Gold Necklace had probably been paid, with money collected from motorcyclists without helmets and car drivers and passengers without a fastened seatbelt.

Someone should check, how this family has become so wealthy, that they can afford 300,000 Baht Gold Necklaces and suites at The Royal Cliff! Does anyone know, how much the official salary of a senior police officer is in Thailand?

You're absolutely correct. Maybe strap on your own 10 Baht gold necklace and go for a stroll through Jomtien. That'll show everyone.
