Sending international mail c/- Chiang Mai post office

Featured Replies

Hi there, looking at getting my bank in OZ to forward a new debit card and pin number to C/- Chiang Mai post office? Would this be a safe thing to do, or should I get it sent registered or something like that?

Also, if I ordered a camera from the US to come to C/- Chiang Mai post office, would I have to pay customs duty, and if so, how much?

As I would be staying in the Old City, is there a PO branch there that is worth using?

thanks for your attention...

I have had several things sent from the UK over the years, also China, sent

ordinary airmail as well as EMS, and everything arrive ok.

I once had a membership card (not worth anything) sent in a letter, someone

must have thought it was a CC as the letter had been slit open and resealed,

I think most likely in Thailand, as if had been opened in UK i think they would

just have thrown it way.

So would advise EMS for CC as you can track it, and if possible get the sender to wrap

bubble wrap or something around it,so it does not obviously feel like a CC.

As for the camera ,I have had several mini pc s sent from UK and all got through

without taxes etc, depends what they are declared as on the description label.

small packets seem to get through no problem, if its big and heavy that will draw

attention to the parcel from the customs.

PS ,I don't think bank in Oz would send a CC here to you in Thailand,

in fact I would say 100 % sure they wont, get the bank to send it to someone you

know in Oz who could forward it to you ,packed as I described above.

Yes there are two or three PO in City, but I am no good at directions, head PO

is up near the Railway station.

Sharing my experience on this topic.

I recently had a new replacement Credit card sent by HSBC (Malaysia) to me here. It was normal mail. Took around 2+weeks.

Old card expired, so cancel and blocked. The new CC need to be activate in order to use it.

Also have many parcel from US to here, as long as you using USPS or normal Airmail should be less chances to get tax. DHL, Fedex, UPS will get tax for sure.

It was the Bank of Queensland that told me this, I asked them a couple of times because I had the same thought as you, and they said, yes no problem. Forwarding could be a way to go, thanks.

I have never had a problem with the mail here in 7 years. Yet in the last 6 months a small $20 package of tooth brushes have not arrived 1 letter and some post cards. I ordered a Credit card from the wells Fargo bank And it has been 6 weeks. I called them last week and had them cancel it and send it to my sister who sent it last Tuesday by registered mail. Should be here some time in the week coming up. I hope.

Also I had ordered some on line products from iHerb. Every one said they take 9 to 14 days. It took 20 days for mine. The package that went missing about 6 months ago I have had my ex send another one it has been 2 weeks and I am not expecting it for another 2 to 4 weeks. It is from Canada. The letters, post cards and credit card are from the states.

I hope this is just a bad run of luck and not the start of the disintegration of the mail service here.
