Visa overstay advice needed!

Featured Replies

Hi everyone, me and my boyfriend have the 3 entries 60 day visas, we just realised we miss calculated the dates and have over stayed by one day already!(says 11th Sept) with it being 7pm here we cant do anything about it until tomorrow.

We are in Ranong, annoyingly we leave on 18th Sept back to England but if we wait till then we one have to pay much more and two run the risk of being stopped on the bus on the way to Bangkok and then as i understand the overstay is much more serious.

So our only option is to go to immigration in Ranong tomorrow and hope that it is just a case of paying the fine, we want to know if it is as simple as that or will we have problems coming back in for the 5 days until we fly out?

We reallllllly don't want to end up stuck in Myanmar with all our belongings being left in Ranong!

Please help us out, will we be allowed straight back in with our last 60 day visa or will they deny us entry??

Any response will be much appreciated.

As long as you pay the fine it should not be any problem and you will get a new 15 day entry on return.

Thank you, what about the 60 day entry visa I already have left, i dont mind which I use because like i said we are leaving on 18th, but im just wandering is that still valid or will they just give us standard 15 days now?

If you have another entry available it can be used (if visa is still valid) or if you have not extended current stay you could likely do that even with 2 days overstay by paying fine first.

Ok one more question, because we are only here for another 5 days, is it possible to just get the 15 day visa and not use the 60 day entry visa, would this mean the 60 day entry is still available for us to use if we decided to come back or would it get wiped?

You could also go the immigration office in Ranong and get a 30 day extension (1900 baht) after paying overstay fine of 500 baht.

Remaining entry would only be valid up to the enter/use before date of visa.

Only 500?

Should of put per day. Total is 1000 baht.

Max overstay fine is 20k baht not 30. Fine is 500 baht per day.

Pay at airport no problem but allow for time to pay fine.

Yes max 20.000, just paid the fine myself after 6 year overstay. No problem

The Visa is valid until it's expiry date not the number of trips you have made. Are you intending to come back very shortly otherwise surely it is better to get another triple entry when you do. Did you get your current triple entry in Hull?

Ok I didn't even know if I could get another triple entry! I got it in Birmingham at Thai Embassy, I just wanted to see if I could use it another time as I paid £25 for it, never mind.

I went to the Ranong port today, ended up not bothering with the border crossing and paying the 1900 baht for a 30 day extension, i know it would have been cheaper to just go to Myanmar but tbh its was pure laziness! we were tired and it was poring with rain, so we paid the 1000 baht fee for over staying two days (which I was really surprise how nice and relaxed they were about) and then did the visa extension and went home job done!

Wow hearing your 6 year overstay makes my worries sound a little silly! Im just a little paranoid about these things since I got deported from Australia 3 years ago, but clearly Thailand is a lot more relaxed about it then Aus!

Glad things worked out for you.

If they think it is a genuine mistake they will be flexible, the person who overstayed 6 years was very lucky and I would not advise anyone to play with overstays, it is a criminal offence and can lead to jail.

Suzanna if you got deported from Australia you will now be limited in many countries as they often ask if you have ever been deported, I imagine Australia would be reluctant to let you back in. Therefore why were you not more careful? You were also lucky that Police in general did not ask you for ID as if you are caught in Thailand overstaying it normally means being transported to Bangkok and deported and I think an exclusion period. There have been several cases in the press recently of this. Anyway did you enjoy Thailand it sounds as though you might be back I have lived here many years.

I think you were very lucky you could have gone to jail, also if at any time you were asked by Police to produce your Passport it is almost certain you would have been deported. What part of Thailand was this in?

Thank you FiestyFarang, I am aware of the implications caused from me being deported, I have first hand experience in the matter so know exactly what the situation is.

Overstaying two days in thailand was a genuine mistake, we had the dates written down wrong in our diary, and yes I know if the police stopped me it could have been a more serious matter, but it was only two days and I was in very unlikely situations to be stopped by the police in this time, I have been staying in Ranong so its not like I had to travel far to go to immigration. It isnt something I take lightly hence the reason for posting in the first place and I was simply stating how surprised I was at how relaxed they were about it, but that by no means means I will do it again!

Pay at airport no problem but allow for time to pay fine.

Be warned, however: if stopped by the BIB at any time before departing Thailand and asked to produce ID, your Filipino friend is liable to be banged up in the IDC.
