the two teenagers were qualifying when the silly man walked onto the road, that stuffed up the teenagers qualifying times so they beat him up, sounds reasonable to me

Agreed, I read a comment from a Cambodian resident along the lines of 'if you think Thailand is corrupt'...etc etc.

They showed real courage !! Two against one, real brave guys, may the spirits chase them !!!

I agree, two on one is truly a new amazing level of courage for Thai teenagers. This guy must have looked

pretty feeble, or had a cane.... I am getting tired of reading about all these attacks by mindless teens in

Pattaya. I think I am going to start carrying a knife here. Am sad it has come to that...... :-)

What Pattaya?! No never, I can't believe anything of the such would happen in that up-scale vacation hotspot.

Ok now 2 teens hardly make a "gang" unless of course it was found that they were acting or connected with a larger group hitting various parts of the city.

No doubt that there may have been an exchange of words before this happened. Typical thainess and saving face.

Regardless, from my experience and observations of Thai culture and laws, the man deserved it. Look at what he was doing!!! He was crossing the street. That certainly warrants a minimal sentence of a public beating but not yet that severe of a sword stabbing death from not paying 51b taxi fare or being stabbed to death for not stopping your singing in a karaoke bar. As a tourist you should know better that you are not allowed to cross the street, sing in a karaoke bar or STEAL 51b with the intent to deprive the worst of all.

On a more serious note, as I've said in all my posts regarding Pattaya, it truly is a cesspool. Perhaps at one point in time it may have been a dream vacation getaway hotspot but times have changed. Simply google these 3 words "tourist death thailand" or narrow it down to Pattaya. With using Thailand I got over 10,200,000 results; with Pattaya I got 719,000.

Very scary and sad

This city is just getting worse and worse

Every day there are Assaults robbery

accidents due to drunk driving

tourist are robbed of their values at knife point

Jet ski mafia

Walking street mafia

Maybe its time to move from this city.....sad.png

Move good idea but where are you going to move to where this sort of thing doesn't happen?

Phnom Penh, it's a very peaceful town... for foreigners at least. Thailand is a basket case of a country and I only see it getting worse. Sure we have the odd robbery of people stupid enough to be running around with laptops late at night but the numbers of violent attacks on foreigners is amazingly low. I can only think of 2 incidents in the last 12 years. I feel much safer anywhere in Cambodia than I ever did in London or for that matter when I am in Thailand.

When driving in Khon Kaen and I have had some idiot cut me up or do something dangerous I generally respond with a middle finger, which makes my Thai wife very nervous. Having seen so many reports of Thai's responding to perceived slights by attacking people, such as the falang who was stabbed a couple of weeks back when 2 Thai's nearly ran him over and he apparently shouted something at them, so they came back and one stabbed him in the neck.

A very sorry state of affairs and not at all normal

Correction. This is the new normal!

You can only think of 2 incidents in the last 12 years. You don't think very hard then. Read this link

http://thediplomat.com/asean-beat/2013/03/28/murdered-in-cambodia/

and for anyone else that wants to distort the facts don't do it a quick goggle search will reveal the truth every time.

Cambodia may or may not be safer than Thailand but as in every country there is crime

Perhaps he thought Hun Sen had the monopoly on that too.

Yeah keep telling yourself Phnom Penh is a paradise 5555555. Anyone who had spent any time there or even participated on some of the local web boards, like Khmer 440, can tell you there is plenty of petty crime and occasional serious crimes against foreigners there as well.

I too love PP and the Khmer people, but I'm just as much on my guard there as anywhere. Of course, living in "face" cultures, I've also learned to control my hand/finger gesticulations. As you have not, maybe that is why you perceive so much hostility from the local population. I would suggest you might learn such hand control as well as it might save you and your wife allot of grief one day.

... and yet you seem to have only just arrived....

Well said.

Sadly there are many teens here that not learning what is right and what is wrong and that goes for the whole country.

Drugs doesn't help matters either but we don't know if they are druggies.

I wonder if the man crossing the street was arguing with the 2 teens before it happened. Thais are generally very patient when driving/riding, but if they are pushed over the limit you better run as guns/machetes will be pulled and used.

On being taught "what is right and what is wrong." I know a well-respective elementary school teacher who is involved in real-estate fraud. A Thai teacher who is supposed to be a role model is a blatant thief. And she is teaching young kids! It is disgusting. IMHO, this negative trend (lack of moral values) started back when a certain box-headed person came to power (will not mention names here). If anything, the trend is getting worse. As the economy declines and the education system falters even more, we can expect an increase in these types of crimes. Yes, as one person pointed out, maybe it is time to move. I know many people who would move if they could find a better place with similar positive attributes (and, yes, there still are positive reasons to live in Pattaya-Jomtien).

What the???

so before this un-named "box-headed" person came to power thai's were at the hight of "moral values"? wot a load of Bull,

you "know" a person involved in fraud, yet what are you doing about exposing this said fraud, so how about YOUR moral values???

now for living in Pattaya, well it's not the a$$hole of the the LOS but you can see from there,

for the thug's, public humiliation and then an eye for an eye,

The main reason these unjustified attacks keep happening along with thefts, break ins etc. is because even when they catch these cowards they get a 500 baht fine and that's it.

Make the minimal be 3 months in jail and see how fast these stupid issues are reduced.

The victim might have made some remark to the motorbike riders who jumped the light and almost hit him .... ? I would have.

This is surely the explanation...or a pre-planned attack related to a business dispute. But don't let this stop all the clueless pattaya and teenager bashing posts from the T-V basement internet keyboard brigade.

The thai guy shouted at the 2 young guys, maybe bad language and they followed him.Still a horrible thing to do,but happens all over the world

I live in Bangkok. Have moved to several places in the years yet remained in Bangkok. I'm sure doing the same google search that I suggested on Pattaya on Bangkok or any other vacation destination in the world reveal just the same. I'm simply stating my observations on and about the many Pattaya headlines that pass through this forum as well as the types of crimes against tourists of all nationalities. Falling from balconies/or being pushed, drugging/thefts by escorts, criminals on motorbikes seem to top the list in Pattaya. It seems that almost everyday there is a headline article involving a tourist death in Pattaya.

Unless you live on your own little island nobody is immune and free of victimization of a crime. We all know this yet still make the choices we do to live the lives we want bearing in mind the risks involved and what we are willing to deal with in the worst case. Sure I could move to Chiang Mai or maybe some hillside tribe to lesson my odds of being a victim but Id rather live short and die happy than live long and be miserable.

Perhaps you need to take a course in logical thinking. In order to trash Pattaya, you use an example of

one tourist being killed in Bangkok by the taxi driver, and one tourist being killed in Krabi by wacked out

Trashing? No. You are mistaken. Although my response started and ended stating my observations/opinions of Pattaya, the reference to the stabbing and singing was in a paragraph by itself which consisted of Thai culture and various incidents that made headlines that we are all familiar with. A separate thought or idea needs its own paragraph so you don't create a run-on and confuse your reader. Sorry you were confused.

The intended construction and comprehension of my response was meant to be; start with Pattaya, then focus on observations/incidents of all of Thailand and end refocusing on Pattaya being the leader IMO.

I am extremely sorry and saddened to confuse and mislead you in the delivery of my point. Logical thinking is something I do well but I'll take your suggestion of a course into consideration as there is always room for improvement in everyone although your intention of that remark was to insult, berate, degrade and embarrass me.

So sorry you too have been confused with the construction and delivery of my point. You are correct and should be awarded in pointing out that those incidents I mentioned were not in Pattaya. I made them in reference to Thai culture in a separate paragraph. Then I returned focus on Pattaya to make the final point and drive home the fact that IMO it seems that there are more headlined articles of this thai culture nature coming out of Pattaya than any other city in this forum but perhaps not by actual verifiable crime statistics.

I've been to Pattaya a few times and did not like it. I apologize you are so sensitive regarding where you currently reside and feel you must defend it. Perhaps its works well for you and your needs in life yet it hasn't for all those who were killed or lost their lives due to criminal activity.
