is true internet that bad?

I was not satisfied with my internet which my condo offers so I am looking for my own provider. couldnt get much online info on tot but never hear many people raving about it. seems like true and 3bb are the ones to choose between. I saw an promotion from true for 800thb you get something like 14mb and also 80 tv channels which sounds to me like a interesting deal. 3bb on the other side is with 900thb for 10mb more expensive. now I hear that true must be terrible and 3bb always good. anyone some recommendations? live in bkk sathorn area .

id say my connection has had better than 98 percent up time over the years, thats why it is so annoying when there are issues.

How can you speak for all bangkok? You are speaking from your personal experience which does not reflect true in whole bangkok so please keep it to yourself, in reply to the op, isps in Thailand differ with locations, some places true might be better than 3bb or vice versa, instead of asking here (answers here would be biased and would not reflect your location scenario) I would advice you to consult your neighbors.

I do think reading so many posts about different providers it is your location, for me 10 years ago next month, and to this day, where I live TRUE was and still is the only provider, sum up so far in 10 year TRUE has been very good with very few problems. maybe have has 3 problems, engineer calls within a few hours, always same day. 1st is a talk with engineer on phone to try to fix over the phone...

Cannot say that with TRUE 3G, load of crap, forced into TRUE after they took over HUTCH which was miles better, thankfully when rest of contract ended could move, again believe it is your location

thanks fpr the replies so far.. the problem is that everyone in my building seems fine with the connection they offer but since I have to do work from home also it's sometimes frustrating. seems I have to take a lucky guess then.

shariq, get stuffed, he asked a general question he got a general answer.

And if i were to do a poll of my friends in CENTRAL Bangkok who have internet (all of them) the very vast majority are on true, and most have no complaints other than the occasional hiccup.

the biggest complaints i hear are folk in crap condos with communal connections. but then you get what you pay for, dontcha?

To address the OP, before you agonise over a decision, find out what providers are allowed into your building. some building will only allow a single provider access so your decision is made for you

I have had true DSL for many years now. I would have to say that the service can be quite variable, but over all, more than good enough. When it gets bad (ie: very slow) give them a call and sort it out.

One problem is that true (others also I guess) only deliver to the building, not to your actual room. From the entry point to your room is the responsibility of the building staff.

On top of that, I find speed is also related to the time of day, with speed decreasing in the evening and on weekends, but usually very good during the day and late night (after midnight). I assume this is due to more people being on line.

One thing is for sure, and that is you cannot count on consistant speed all the time, like you can in the US.

i find true pretty consistent speed wise, but i have a 30mbps connection, so i have quite a bit of headroom. that said multi threaded ftp downloads and torrents do show a slight dip during peak, but the differences is like 30mbps bursting to 50 slows to 20 bursting to 30

30mbps.. thats quite a bit indeed. just called with true today, the promotion is only for houses and not for condo's they told me. bit strange but fine. will tomorrow talk the with the office of the building, they have everything set up here for true so maybe they have ways to extend their services better.
