Do they not understand what a reservoir, and dam are suppose to do prior to flooding season. Is it greed that has them hold onto the early water, instead of keeping the reservoir's low before rainy season.

I am sorry that so many people have to deal with the flooding again.

How the Thais are going to explain foreign investors the Tahis did everything possible with the experience of the floods in 1942 and 1095, and especially the one of 2011, to avoid any flooding again ?

How to explain foreign custopmers, they can be asured of thai reliability to ge their contacted supply, and not AGAIN be excused by floods again ?

Bangkok will not be affected as, after the 2011 floods, the BMA already dredged all the canals through the city so they wouldnt clog up next time...

week flooding starts..... How about instead of moronic sound bites, she would say something like floods are anticipated

this year ( like the other 1000 years) , but the government will be doing everything in its power to help protect

PM urges soldiers to help flood victims: defence ministry spokesman

BANGKOK, Sept 22--- Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra, in her dual role as defence minister, has ordered military personnel to help residents in 15 flood-hit provinces, according to Col Thanathip Sawangsaeng, defence ministry spokesman.

Col Thanathip said on Sunday that the premier instructed relevant soldiers to coordinate and work closely with provincial disaster prevention and mitigation offices in 15 affected provinces in order to provide assistance and relief to flood victims efficiently.

The relief centre under the Royal Thai Armed Forces Headquarters have dispatched soldiers, equipment and flat-bottomed boats to help residents evacuate their belongings to higher ground, facilitate travel of flood-stricken people, repair damaged bridges, as well as clear lanes which were blocked by landslides.

From September 16 through 22, the ministry’s relief centre has sent 1,500 soldiers, 35 trucks, five excavators and 29 flat-bottomed boats to assist flood-hit people.

Meanwhile, army personnel have also built a sandbag wall, cleared ways which were earlier blocked by landslides, provided assistance in setting up evacuation centres and constructed a flood wall at Wat Chai Wattanaram Temple to protect the World Heritage Site from flooding.

In a related development, Ayutthaya disaster prevention and mitigation chief Udomsak Khaonoona said today that, so far, eight districts of this central provinces have been inundated.

The flooded districts are Bang Ban, Sena, Phak Hai, Bang Sai, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya provincial seat, Bang Pa-in, Tha Ruea and Nakhon Luang.

The inundation has hit 80 subdistricts and affected some 12,000 households and seven temples.

Meanwhile, Bang Pahan and Maha Rat districts are also likely to be affected by the flood, Mr Udomsak said, adding that a survey on damages is underway. (MCOT online news)

Because, even though many of us are not native to Thailand we have adopted Thailand as our home and we care!

The PM (an "elected" leader working on everyone behalf for the good of the country) made a statement that plans are in place so the flooding will be controlled AND that there is nothing to worry about,,, and then as soon as the forecasted rain comes people are again struggling to cope with the flooding, is it not ok to question the previous statement just days ago and question what is really being done?

Also, the statement about positioning boats and their propellers to "push" the water away is an unbelievable statement to make, it is frankly insulting to assume that people will accept this ridiculous idea as any kind of solution.

There are plenty of foreign people in my country who are working, contributing and paying taxes and if this was happening there I would expect them to have an opinion on it too.

Better prepare for more longterm flooding . 2011 was terrible , beer was sold out everywhere . Hope this year they keep the brewery's dry and the suplly routes .

How about the "Grand Lac De Seine" in France, "The Thames Barrier" in London, the "Delta Works" in Holland, the "Saint petersburg flood prevention complex" or the "SCFB, self closing flood barrier" all over Europe.

I think everyone should and can learn from everyone, especially when it comes to something that protects homes, economies and potentially lives. Why would we not all share this information? This happens everywhere else in the world. Who cares who invented it and where it originated,, if Thailand use the technology developed by someone else and it protects against flooding then why not ?

Nope everywhere floods, especially when build on flood plains. However not that many countries have PM saying won't happen when it already is.

Thank Christ we are free to leave Thailand whenever we like, unlike the vast majority of Thai people who have no choice.

I was just reading the other paper, major flooding in Pathum Thani. The Chao Phraya River has overflowed both sides. This is getting real close to the "flood proof city"

Quite frankly I am surprised there is a drop of water in the CP river with Plods machines going full bore.
