Tax return for 2013

Featured Replies

Hi,

I know that this is too early to ask you ... Hahaha;)

I move to Thailand in May this year . I was making money before in NJ, USA. Also, have a little money interest in my bank this year, I know I have to pay tax for those in next year.

So, this is my question.

Thailand has a special CPA for USA? Or loco CPA in Thailand, they can be taking care of it? Again, I have already live in Thailand.

Thank you for your help;)

Turbotax is easy, and cheap. Give it a try.

If you reside overseas, you get a 6 month [extendable?] deferment, as I've been told................confirm this on their website.

There is/was an American CPA in Chiang Mai.; Dr. Krebs. But you may wish to google him and try to contact him. I remember reading somewhere that he had fallen ill and returned to the USA. Don't know if he returned and if he is still practicing.

There is but if you owe any tax (as opposed to being owed a refund) the IRS will charge you interest on the outstanding balance from April 15 until you pay up. You can get that 6 month extension by filing Form 4868.

Agreed. TurboTax handles expatriate income correctly (including cases where some earned income is in the US and some earned income is outside of the US) and unless the OP's finances are exceptionally complex it would probably be up to the job.

No, but it's useful to have some understanding of he tax code so that if you enter some incorrect data which causes the software to gives a crazy result you would be more likely to spot that something is not right. If you've never prepared your taxes yourself before there might be some risk in using it.

I was afraid to try Turbotax as well, but two years ago I made the switch and have saved hundreds of dollars in accountant fees.

You access Turbotax online, and if you can't answer all the questions, save your work, go do your homework, and come back to your online account at Turbotax and continue answering the questions. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. It costs nothing unless at the end of the process you decide to file using Turbotax.
